PETA Spokesman on Showtime
This fall, cable network Showtime will air a show called "American Candidate." The show's website pretended that ordinary people could apply on line and that the final contestants would be selected on the basis of votes received on the web site. In fact, the 12 contestants were already chosen in advance--the "on line vote" was just to hype the program.
One of the candidates is Bruce Friedrich of PETA. Friedrich has openly supported terrorism as a means to achieving his political goals: “If we really believe that these animals do have the same right to be free from pain and suffering at our hands, then, of course we’re going to be, as a movement, blowing stuff up and smashing windows. For the record, I don’t do this stuff, but I do advocate it. I think it’s a great way to bring about animal liberation … I think it would be a great thing if all of these fast-food outlets, and these slaughterhouses, and these laboratories, and the banks that fund them exploded tomorrow. I think it’s perfectly appropriate for people to take bricks and toss them through the windows, and everything else along the line. Hallelujah to the people who are willing to do it. Tell them you will cancel your subscription if they give this man a forum. Fight back. Cindy Cooke Legislative Specialist United Kennel Club Permission to cross post this message |

While I abhor these actions - in fact, disavow violence in any form - I'm also passionately terrified of all the door-slamming on our hard-won civil rights that censorship enables. And isn't a free network of information and education the hallmark of a free society? I'd far rather hear what is going on and learn about others' opinions first hand, especially those with whom I don't agree. (HA! That was a tough sentence to avoid ending with a preposition!)
Vote with your remote. By the way, Cindy, how about sharing some info on how we dog owners can impact some of the breed specific legislation that is slipping through our state govs unbeknownst to us peons? Most people never find out about it until it's too late. And any info on some of the ridiculous homeowners' insurance restrictions would be welcome, too. You know what would be great? A widely publicized posting of the insurance companies that have breed restrictions on homeowners' insurance along with the breeds affected. |

I am not Cindy, I just copied it from it UKC board. I have asked for a BSL forum on this side, but I guess they didn't think it was important enough. There are a lot of websites devoted to that problem. If you have the time to actively help fight BSL, I would recommend you contact the AmericanDogOwnersAssociation. http://www.adoa.org/ >>>You know what would be great? Thanks for the info, and sorry about the name mistake!
PETA used to - and still does - some very worthwhile things, but unfortunately the more militant fringe stuff gets all the attention and seems to be steering the organization now. I find myself in a position now to possibly have some relevant access to people on my state level, so I do plan to do my due diligence on BSL and see what kind of problems I can cause. As for the insurance companies, the only thing they understand is the bottom line. If all of us who care boycotted the insurance companies that practice these discriminatory practices regardless of whether we own a proscribed breed or not, they would have to pay attention. |
