Pit bulls outlawed in ontario

bill 132 passed today in ontario

56 yes
23 no

effectively banning all american pit bull terriers, american staffordshire terriers, staffordshire bull terriers, and any pit mixes or pit "type" dogs from the province.

existing dogs will be allowed to live in the province if they are spayed/neutered and leashed and muzzled in public at all times, however they are still in grave danger as they can be seized with no warning if they are accused of being "menacing".

this is an absolutely heartbreaking day for me. i knew it was going to happen, but still part of my mind thought the legislators of ontario would have more sense than that. clearly not. clearly they are more concerned with hysteria and easy outs than with passing legislation that would effectively combat the dog bite problem.

This is soooooo sad! I feel sorry for anyone in Ontario who owns a pittie as they will be deemed guilty for no other reason other than owning a loving and kind Pittie!

Unfortunately i think they have simply looked at the UK figures and said "Oh that worked" since our bite incidence has gone down since Pits, filas, dogos, and one other that i forget, were banned a few years back. I dont understand why the staffordshire bull terrier is in there with them though, even the UK government were't stupid enough to ban a breed with an almost zero human bite incidence.

Personally, I believe anyone who buys a pit bull -- even those owners who look and seem harmlessly normal, even loving -- are closet oddballs with psychological disorders, otherwise why would they want as a pet a pit bull that, through reputation, is a loose and scary cannon?

nice guy. he definitely deserves my respect. mmmkay.

Woah and he's calling other people oddballs??? I'm just hoping he wrote that for attention, negative or positive. Haha, like Tasmo, he does stuff he knows I don't like, just for attention. Well, not as much now.

But anyway. That guy is the oddball. That's so sad.

he actually wrote a column in response to all the, um, correspondence he got about the first one: Dog Hater? Chew on this, people.

somehow it was ok for him to have had a man-biting chow, but he's against people owning perfectly friendly pit bulls? makes perfect sense to me! *cough*

LOL I just got done reading that, and thought the same thing. So his chow is allowed to bite people, yet a pitbull that bites is worse than that? I wonder if he even knows anything about dog behavior. I highly doubt it.
