Micheal Vick's Dogs Go Public - Video of the dogs released.

Vick dogs go public | DogTime

Quote:
Vick dogs go public: Former fighting dogs become examples of the pit bull breed's resilience.

This morning, the last defendant in the Michael Vick dogfighting case was sentenced, and the gag order on the case lifted. Now, for the first time, the public can meet the dogs seized from the fighting ring.

In a first for dogfighting cases, the court allowed the seized dogs to be evaluated by dog experts, rather than euthanizing them. An ASPCA-led team found that of 49 dogs, just one needed to be put down for aggression.

What's Next for Michael Vick's Pit Bull Dogs? Are they adoptable?

Quote:
Following, the ASPCA team's recommendations, the court ordered the potentially adoptable dogs to spend six months to a year being trained and observed for signs they're ready for life as a family dog. The dogs will be trained to earn their AKC Canine Good Citizenship certificate, a test of basic manners and obedience skills.

According to the court, approximately 65 dogs were seized from the Michael Vick property. 53 of them were pit bulls. 4 died before a guardian was appointed. 2 were euthanized. Of the 47 dogs under supervision, it was determined that some of them would be adoptable, and some would live in a sanctuary permanently.

"There are actually quite a few of them that seem 100 percent adoptable," said Frank McMillan, one of the sanctuary's head veterinarians. "Ultimately the goal is to get almost all of them adopted."

I'm so glad those dogs get a second chance at life. They all look so sweet and bless all of the souls who have fought for them and stood with them to give them this second chance.

They do look very happy. A happy ending to a very sad story! And when this first happened me and a friend argued for a long time about whether these dogs would make good pets. I guess I was right.
