I realize it would be hard, and the more animals the more likelyhood of some form of mistreatment, but they have laws that they don't use. Instead, i'm made to be a criminal, or am limited so someone can feel good about a law they passed. two years ago near me there was a house condemmed because it was so filthy and run down filled with huskies. I forgot how many. Most of you probably heard about it. It was in WI.

This wasn't the first time for those people. I think it was about 5 years earlier they had the same thing happen, just a few miles away. Same family, different dogs, different house. Same outcome. They have laws, those people should have never had the opportunity to do something like that again, but they did, and sadly probably will again, because they use laws to get normal responsible people to do what they want, but those that don't have simple common sense and decency never do obey the law. It's time they start using the laws they have and really laying it to these people.

I definitely agree with that. We have a law in my county about selling pets on street corners/in front of stores/etc., and they had a whole article in the paper about how even when the officers do go out to enforce it, they chase people off, and then 30 minutes later the people just come right back!! Now why the heck is that happening? There are several laws these people could be breaking (and more than likely are--like selling underage puppies), but no one's getting punished for it! And so the wrong people keep breeding their dogs and selling them on street corners to the wrong people, and the city pays for it through the pets coming into animal control later (once now to the point of overcrowding where we had a disease outbreak!!). So I am 100% with you on that one.

I completely agree with GSD. I do not agree with the law putting a limit on how many dogs/cats people can have. But I know that its not enforced whatsoever unless the animals are being neglected. Obviously I agree that she should have her animals taken away because of her inbreeding. But all of our dogs (except one) and all of our cats (Except one) are spayed and neutered and are not a nuisance at all. Our next door neighbor to the right has atleast 15 cats i have counted (Most of which go in our yard and eat the cat food we leave on the porch), and the people on the other side have 5 large dogs. The law here is you can only have 4 dogs, and 19 cats (The city I live in has a HUGE cat overpopulation problem).

The law to my knowledge is enforced if you are caught with more dogs/cats than you are allowed to own. I really hope nobody turns you in Punky...

If you don't agree with the limit law, what other law was Paris breaking that would allow Animal Control access to her home in order to monitor the welfare of her pets? Do you think the welfare of those particular animals is "no body's business" but Paris's. She was not selling or handing out animals she bred, she was keeping them for her own companionship so I cannot find any other violation she would have been charged with. If there were not limit to pets, there would be no limit to pet licenses, so she would have had them licensed....I'm at a loss.

I do agree that we need more enforcement of nuisance laws and the multitude of other laws that apply to irresponsible owners BUT who's going to pay for it? We keep having budget cuts where law enforcement and animal control budgets are diminishing and the need for animals law enforcement is escalating.

I went hunting for anti-limit law information and this is best the information I found:
Best Friends - Pet limit laws
AKC - Animal Limit Laws: Better Alternatives

Again who's going to pay?

I'm thrilled to hear that Paris has been limited on the number of dogs she can have. I think she is mentally ill and the people support her unending exposure in the press should be ashamed of themselves. She needs no press and lots of therapy.

Dogs can only be bred once a year, thats a law here. (Actually saw it in the classified pet section). It also said puppies have to be atleast 8 weeks old before they can be sold, and yet I saw an ad for 6 week old yorkies.

We don't know how many dogs had litters or how long she has had them. We have the same laws here too, but these regulations are in the breeders permit and not the regular owners licensing Is it against the law to have a litter?

I seriously cannot find anything other than the limit law.

Can anyone find something else?

I gotta say even though I believe Paris Hilton has no business caring for the lives of any other living thing, I do not like laws like this. We have plenty of animals. We are allowed 5 total. we have 6, 4 cats 2 dogs. I had another dog staying with us for a while. I would have loved to keep him, and if not him, I have the time, resources, knowlege, etc to care for more animals (no more cats though). I love them, I love to train them.

They don't cause any problems. My neighbors always comment how they have no idea I have dogs, except they can seem me outside with them. They don't go in their yards, they don't bark outside, they aren't digging holes all over, they aren't running loose. My dogs are NEVER outside unless I am. Why should I be limited???

I can see why they have these laws, somewhat, but come on. there's laws for public safety, health, etc concerning dogs (ie leash laws, picking up crap, at large dogs) if someone can't comply fine them. They have nusiance laws for barking, digging, running around loose, etc. If people can't obey them, punish them. There are already a thousand ways they could get these people if they wanted to, but they don't. If they spent less time trying to pass more restrictions and more time enforcing the real laws and real problems we'd be much better off.

This is still America, and people should still have choices. If Paris's dogs can have 50 puppies, and she keeps them all and all are cared for and fed and healthy, and not breaking any of the other hundred dog laws for nusiance, public safety, or health, then she should be able to, even though I still see her as one of the most brain dead people alive.
I agree with GSD about the dog limit laws. We've also had a lot of problems in the past, because there is a limit of 4 dogs and 3 cats where I live. In my opinion, that is very stupid, since we live out in the country.... well, they call it a town. We have one country store, a bar, and a town hall/fire department. All spread-out. Not really what I consider a town lol. Anyways, because of one neighbor who we've had a lot of problems with in the past (started long before we even had any dogs), we have had some issues with having our dogs in the past. However, we were able to get a kennel permit to keep the dogs, and all we have to do is pay $110.00 per year which is for licensing all of the dogs. We also get inspected several times a year, but that's no big deal at all. It worked out alright for us, because despite the fact that our neighbor hates large dogs, and wanted to force us to place them.... she didn't understand that we would be able to get a permit to have the dogs lol. It kinda' backfired on her, but if the animal control officer had wanted to be a jerk when he was called, he could have potentially taken all but 4 of the dogs, and at that time (this was around 3 years ago) we had a total of 11 dogs. I guess you could say we were just lucky.

I guess my point is, putting a limit on how many dogs a person can own is, in my opinion, very wrong. I can really see a good in preventing bad pet owners and puppy millers from owning a lot of dogs, however, I totally disagree with the limit laws because they do not just target bad owners, puppy mills, ect. I think that people everywhere should be allowed to own as many dogs as they can properly care for in every way, attention, excercise, medical, ect. I do believe that these people should have to have a permit to own a larger amount of dogs, because that allows the state to require inspections, usually several times per year in most places. I have no problem at all with that, i'm totally for it, and believe that any good pet owner wouldn't have an issue with the inspections either. If you're a good pet owner, and your dogs are being cared for properly.... you shouldn't have anything to hide, you know. But, totally making it illegal to own more than a certain amount of dogs is just plain wrong, I think.

As for Paris Hilton.... I really don't feel that she's a good pet owner, since her dogs do appear to be more like accesories than anything else. However, if the dogs are being well cared for, i'm not sure that there's really anything that anyone can do about it. I'm also guessing that she will or has already gotten a kennel permit.
