Greatest American Dog, July 10th

Looks like a fun show to add to the tivo

Premieres Thursday, July 10, 8pm et/pt

“Twelve extraordinary teams of dogs and owners from across the nation from "pageant dogs" to those simply trained at home, will live together and compete against each other in challenges that put the owners' ability to train their dogs to the test. Each week, the judges will eliminate one dog and their owner. The last remaining team will walk away with a $250,000 cash prize and the title of GREATEST AMERICAN DOG”.

Greatest American Dog: Watch Full Episodes and Video and Join the Ultimate Fan Community - CBS.com

The show should also be available via cbs's web site like most of their other shows

Judge: Victoria Stilwell
Victoria Stilwell is one of the worlds most recognized and respected dog trainers. Seen in over 30 countries, she is best known as the host of the television series, “It's Me or the Dog,” where she shares her insight and passion for positive, reward-based dog training.

Stilwell is the co-founder of Dog Trainers of New York, Dog Trainers of New Jersey and, most recently, Dog Trainers of Georgia. She has penned two books, It's Me or the Dog: How to Have the Perfect Pet and Fat Dog Slim: How to Have a Healthy, Happy Pet.

She remains committed to helping the cause of animal rescue and is heavily involved with rescue groups around the world, including Paws Atlanta, Stray from the Heart (New York), Hong Kong Dog Rescue and Greyhound Rescue of West England. She supports the Wisconsin Puppy Mill Project, Jana Kohl, and the Waterside Action Group in their fight against the horrific practice of puppy farming. Stilwell is certified by the Animal Behavior and Training Associates and is a member of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers (APDT).

Her dog-related writings have been published in numerous magazines and journals including The New York Times, Dog World, Dogs Today, Psychology Today and The Sun. She has appeared on countless talk and radio shows in the United States, Europe and Asia.

Judge: Allan Reznik
Allan Reznik is perhaps best known for successfully combining his print and broadcast journalism with his passion for dogs. His career spans from teaching to writing books, scripts and countless articles for magazines, newspapers and public television.

For over 30 years, Reznik has been involved in the dog world as an owner, breeder, trainer, dog-show exhibitor, handler, judge and media commentator. He hosted bi-weekly pet segments on Life Network/HGTV (Canada) where he brought dogs of various breeds on the show to discuss their suitability as pets.

In 2002, while working as Editor-in-Chief of the magazine Dogs in Canada, he was recruited by Fancy Publications in California and relocated to oversee their dog magazine division. He is currently Editor-at-Large of Dog World and Dog Fancy, as well as Editor-in-Chief of Dogs in Review.

In addition, he was chief consultant to National Geographic Television and an on-air guest for a documentary on the life of the urban dog. In February of 2008, he was honored with the Best Editorial Columnist of the Year Award by the Alliance of Purebred Dog Writers.

Judge: Wendy Diamond
Wendy Diamond is the Chief Pet Officer, Editor-In-Chief and founder of the animal lifestyle magazine and website, Animal Fair, dedicated to fairness to animals and responsible breeding. Diamond and her rescue dog, Lucky, are frequent pet lifestyle contributors to the CBS' THE EARLY SHOW, “The Today Show,” “The View,” “Fox News,” “CNN” and “Good Morning, America,” among many others. She has been featured in numerous publications including Forbes, Time, People, The New Yorker and Vogue.

Diamond is the author of two books, How to Understand Men Through Their Dogs and How to Understand Women Through Their Cats, and is currently working on her next book, How to Train your Boss to Roll Over.

Diamond is the executive producer and host of the television special Paws for Style, and the co-producer and host of Lucky Travels on Animal Planet. She is also finishing her “Docu-Comedy,” In Search of Puppy Love, featuring cameos by Warren Beatty, Paula Abdul and Hugh Hefner, among many more.

In addition to her contributions in the pet world, Diamond is also a cause-related entrepreneur whose two best-selling cookbooks, A Musical Feast and An All-Star Feast, have helped raise thousands of dollars for homeless people and children. She and her dog, Lucky, are currently the Chairperson and Chair Dog of the Katrina Pet Memorial Fund, and continue to honor their Mantra of helping the underdog anyway they can.

I wish the little Boston had a calmer caretaker because she was so smart and wanted to do so much but the guy was so hyper it scared his dog. What a shame.
Victoria Steelwell may be a good trainer, but she's a bit too rude. I didn't like how she talked to that girl. It brought that poor girls to tears. That is totally uncalled for. Is she going to be another Simon Cowel?
I hope this isn't going to be a very tense and upsetting time for the contestants because this should be a fun show. If it turns out to be otherwise, I won't watch it.

I thought it was okay. Alot of the owners...are...weird. But that's okay, I suppose.

I'm pulling for the guy with the Boxer.

I felt bad for the Boston, too. It seemed like it had a lot of potential, but the owner just didn't take thigns too seriously at times. Granted it was a Boston so it has a mind of its own, but still.

Is she going to be another Simon Cowel?
Probably. She did make good points, but her approach was a bit stern. But that is what sells for TV judges, apparently. It always seems like out of a panel of three, one is always the "making good points but making them cry" type.

I thought it interesting that she nit picked at that Border Collie barking. If it was barking at its owner while not following commands that is one thing, but barking out of excitement...I don't know if I would have yelled at that. Now, if they ever have a competitive obedience challenge the dog will be in trouble, but it seems more like an agility dog to me...bark while having the time of your life!
I don't like it when Chloe barks during some obedience routines, but when she does it because she's having fun I don't care (but then again, she will also shut up when told and if she doesn't all fun stops).

I wonder if the dog/owner teams who will get down to the finals will have the breeds that are the "smart, obedient" type. Would be interesting to see, anyways.

I thought it was really good and I enjoyed it(slim pickens in the summer without cable), it's pretty obvious the judges don't really care for the clear front runner whatever his name is and his dog Galaxy, I'm assuming this is because they don't approve of his trainignj methods.

I have this show recorded for anyone thats interested, I can shrink it way down to make it internet\old computer friendly.

If I get it small enough does anyone know where to host it I'd like to have a larger discussion about it with a wider audience.(Edit duh it's free online please ignore)

I know I felt the same way I can't believe they choose them, I mean they almost won the first challange and just lost out against Galaxy and mr super macho trainer(I think he's a little to cocky)

I think someone's already posted a direct link to the show. If not, Greatest American Dog Video - CBS.com

I actually enjoyed it for what it was. Don't forget they make these shows for their entertainment value and nothing else. If CBS is able to put folks together that combine like oil and water then they'll do it simply to spark controversy.

I was a bit disappointed that the "flamboyant" gentlemen was let go with the Boston, (Ezzie was it?). The blonde bimbo with the dress-up shnauzer is number one with a bullet on my hit parade to be the next one kicked to the curb.

Now I cant say for sure, but I think the vegas money is on the giant shnauzer to win the whole romp, but those Border Collies will be making it to the final rounds. From the previews last episode, it seemed like the older fellow was going to be leaving due to some medical problem with his dog. (Of course the magic of reality shows never tells the WHOLE story until you watch it).

The dynamic of manic vs subdued couldnt be more obvious in this show. I'll watch for another week

I saw bits and pieces, and then the ending. It's interesting... not something I'm COMPLETELY fascinated with, but I'll watch it a few more times. I'm sure I'll get a little more interested as time goes on.

I can't say whether or not I was disappointed with the elimination cause I didn't see the entire show, so I don't have a "fave" just yet.

I was disappointed with the elimination especially because I liked the boston terrier thats my breed. My whole family was cracking up when she stole the skateboard and made all those noises like maggie would make. It looked just like something Maggie would do. I thought the schnauzer should have gone home she did no tricks at all during the final competition.

So I watched last night and felt bad for Elvis and his owner but they really were the weakest of the loosing team, personaly I think the doggy dress up person(whatever her name is) should go it's obvious she has no clue what she's even doing there.

Overall the show is somewhat disapointing, the fact that they are "randomly teaming"(random my left butt cheek) up contestants tells me the show is less about the "greatest dog" and more about creating drama the networks think people want to see.

I don't understand why they choose most of the contestants they did, some are great but other obviouly don't know anything about training abd don't belong ont eh show.

I mean some of the teams had never been to a dog agility course before?!?!? How could the be "the greatest american dog"
