I guess I would be in trouble there. I don't get out for 3 walks a day, unless they count a quick run in the small yard we have for bathroom breaks. I'd probably get it for biking with her two,, as we do that a couple times a week. I guess i'm glad i don't live in Italy

This is ridiculous. Who has the time to walk a dog 3 times a day? I could kind of understand if the law was 'once' a day, and I know that many dogs get (and sometimes need) 2 walks a day...but 3?
And fineing someone for dyeing their dogs fur is even more idiotic. There have to be better ways of preventing dogs becoming fashion accessories than this. Cass. |

I guess for me it doesn't sound all that ridiculous. I mean it doesn't state for how long of a walk, at least not in the article. You should take your dog out for a walk in the morning, when you get home from work (or school), and then another walk before bedtime. I'm sure it's much more clear in the actual law, but maybe it could be as short as 15 minutes. But I do wonder, how will they monitor this?

My dogs are walked once (sometimes more) a day. Just because it's one walk doesn't mean it's short.

I think that the 'Walk your dog law' is rediculous. It is way to over board. I walk our dogs once a day and then they get to run in the evening.
And what if somebody owned a Bulldog or something? I don't know about you guys, but I wouldn't want to walk an English Bulldog three times a day in the summer. They couldn't handle it. I could understand a "walk your dog once a day' but three times a day? Some families are doing good just to get one walk in. (Bet yep, I do like that animal abuse law.) |

you know the bit i love - the part about not tiring the animal out too much - the whole reason i walk my boxer mix for so darn long is TO tire him out so i get a bit of peace when he comes in and wants to go to bed. lol.

To me a walk mean on leash and away from and back to my home. Based on this my dogs usually get about one "walk" a day but depending on the weather sometimes more and sometimes none. We do however make trips to the dog park several times a week and a couple of time a day have a chase/run/fetch/tackle/wrestle/train session in the back yard. It is these backyard play/think/train times when the dogs get the most exercise not on our walks. I have bad knees so I can't run with them, so walks for us are more a socialization event than exercise. And it is true that the reason we play these games is in part to tire them out and we usually do atleast some before walks so they are calmer and better manners instead of full of pent up energy.
