A number of sled dog abuse situations have been in the news already this year...

Ron Wyatt of Leadville, Colo. was charged with 16 counts of animal cruelty after his sled dogs were discovered without adequate food, water or shelter in a gulch north of St. Kevin’s Gulch. Click for full story.

Musher Doug Bartko was found guilty of 39 counts of animal cruelty, failure to provide care for his dogs and interfering with an investigation in a Palmer court Tuesday. A judge found Bartko guilty of starving and neglecting his 25 sled dogs, discovered by Animal Control officials in May. Click for full story.

Original story on Doug Bartko: Mat-Su Animal Control Officials say they have uncovered one of the worst cases of animal cruelty they have ever seen. Officials found 25 dogs, many of them nearly starved to death and some chained to a short wire, left in a remote location with no food or water. Charges of animal cruelty have been laid against Tumbler Ridge resident Stacey Lajeunesse following a large-scale BC SPCA investigation involving badly-neglected husky dogs last November. I hvae such mixed feelings about sled dogs and owners like these give the good sled dog people a really bad name.

I'm sorry but any sled dog that never recieves time off leash and one on one attention is being abused IMO. It's not the 19 century anymore where we use dogs to survive and we treat them like livestock.
