Accidental shootings, accidental dog attacks...no one is infallable. Whilst everyone likes to pass the buck, it normally ends up being a human to blame, after all, we are the master race...we are in control...or are we???? We are in control, we press the right buttons, we give the commands...RIGHT??
Lets not be too hasty to jump to conclusions... how about a follow up Quincy, was it human error? Did the dog sense a suspicious element here? OR was the dog just following commands, are you going to just leave this situation as it is, do we get to read what was the real reason behind this, or are we just going to sit and argue the to's and fro's of this poor dogs destination???? |

The dog sensing a suspicious element notwithstanding, the dog should not have attacked unless, commanded or the handler was attacked. With a properly trained police dog, we are in control, we do push the buttons. I'm not jumping to conclusions, in fact I said it would be difficult to say what went wrong, without knowing the details. It is easy for me to say as a police canine handler, supervisor and trainer for a police agency, that an incident, as described, should never have happened and I would be very concerned as to what went wrong.
