Really?? I live in virginia beach, which is only a city away, and PETA is based there in Norfolk. I haven't heard anything on this and I watch the news and read paper daily. I'll look out for it and tell you if I hear anything. I hope this is untrue. It seems that PETA does so much in sake of all animals, to the extreme at times (and I'm a vegetarian and I think they are a little extreme!) so I can't imagine them doing this. ??? Hmmm.... I'll keep my eyes opened though.

That is horrible. But PETA is not as good as they appear. I used to be an active member, but I highly disagree with their believes. PETA affliates are responsible for opening crates at dog shows and releases the dogs, saying that it is unethical to breed dogs and keep them in crates. My response to that is..is it better to backyard breed, sell to petstores that don't look after the dogs and charge way too much. Even if I wasn't a breeder, I still would buy from a breeder and never from a pet store.
So really, I don't find it that hard to believe about PETA...They are all talk and no action. And they have very unethical methods and morals. They participate in animal cruelty, and write it off because of the fact that they are PETA. |

I -strongly dislike- the PETA. They sound like loonies if you ask me. I mean honestly, they believe that a dog, that strives on companionship and has no instinct to take care of itself, would be better off dead or in the wild than in the hands of a loving person. They are just some screwed up people. They take animal rights and animal protection just a tad bit to far if you ask me.

Well, this is just crazy! They are very extreme. I don't like a lot of what's said in the media that they do. On the news they said they are showing the report and giving an update at 10, so I will be sure to post what I hear. Sheesh...
WingedFoal- I'm guessing you are moving here because of the military? I thought I remembered you saying your husband was in the military? Will you be moving to the base or somewhere surrounding it in Norfolk? It's a nice city, of course I prefer the beach , there's very old, historic places in Norfolk which is nice. Let me know- ou will be very close. |

Okay, I just watched it. Ewww... it looks pretty cut and dry to me. Well, the police say that 2 PETA workers euthenized (SP?) 31 dogs (but they later said there were kittens, puppies, pregnant dogs and cats) in a van and then dumped them in garbage bags in dumpsters at a strip mall in NC. The 2 people were in court today, but said nothing further on that. They also showed a shelter worker from NC that said, "they promised they would do what they could to find them homes". She wasn't too happy- obviously. Then they talked to a vet that said, of course, that is not normal practice under any cicumstance. Then they talked to the Norfolk SPCA, which is a no kill shelter. She said they never give the animals to PETA because of the reputation. They also talked to a previous PETA worker who said this was normal practice. She was with them last year when they took animals, didn't catch from where, and killed them a block away and did the same thing. She complained about it and was told leave or your going to leave, she left.
Thanks for pointing this out to me. I really didn't know they were capable of the horrid things such as this. When they came to Norfolk years ago, people here were in a rage about them and I always just thought they helped animals. ![]() |

, but that's yet to be determined. We are coming up in September for his two week R&R to find a place to live. He'll be just as thrilled as me if PETA is a big deal there (more sarcasm, ). I don't know if I've read about it before or not (bad memory, so forgive me if I have read it before), but are you military? |

No, not anymore. Growing up my Dad was in the Marines so we moved a bit. When I met my husband he was in the Navy. His enlistment was up literally a couple weeks before my oldest daughter was born. Now he works at a shipyard, go figure, and works on the military ships.
