Austin,TX Members Alert Spay Neuter Agenda

From Responsible Pet Owners Alliance,
the reasonable voice regarding animal issues.
Responsible Pet Owners Alliance is an animal welfare organization,
not "animal rights" and, yes, there is a difference.
Permission granted to crosspost.

TX-RPOA E-News
August 15, 2005

The Austin Animal Advisory Commission recently passed a proposal for
Mandatory Spay/Neuter of all dogs and cats and Breeders Permits. To date
the Commission has NOT found a city councilmember to sponsor the proposal.
This proposal is an agenda, not a solution to animal problems. The "animal
rights" activists seek to end all use of animals for any reason, including
pet ownership.

Aggressive promotion of existing voluntary spay/neuter programs, education
and assistance for low income pet owners and enforcement of existing laws
are the only solution to Austin's animal problems -- not unenforceable
legislation. See George Armstrong's message below about the upcoming
commission meeting.

Although they do not have anything on the agenda about spay/neuter and
breeding ordinance, it does not mean that it will not come up in the citizen
communication. Hope that some of you can attend so that the commission will
know that we still have an interest in what they are doing.
