Brick-Blind Dog Killed- Hit&Run
This was sent to me this morning in my e mail. It is so very sad. They have not caught the people that did this to him and the volunteer at the shelter. These people actually swerved to hit them!!! And were drunk or acting drunk as eye witness says at 7:30am!!!!!! They even showed video coverage of this from a camera hidden in the alley.
here is the link: http://abclocal.go.com/wls/news/0815...og_killed.html They have not been able to catch the people yet but have found their car. The reward for any info is not close to $4000. I hope they catch them!!! |

That's so sad
What's wrong with these people? A couple of days ago a red Acura repeatedly ran over ducks at a car wash. Then got out and strangled a few ducklings. I can't understand this kind of behavior.http://cbs5.com/pets/local_story_224155203.html (news video available) |

I cant even bring myself to look at the posting.
But I sure have strong opinions about any animal abuse. If only we could mete out the same injustice towards offenders just maybe they would think before doing such revolting acts |

That is sad, but i am glad they are doing so much to bring the offenders to justice. Most of the times the cases are just blown off

OMG. I just found the rescue where this wonderful dog was at. I don't know if this is what you posted or not, but here is the one I found on the website.
In Memory of BRICK SPECIAL NEEDS Woman hit, blind dog killed in hit and run By Rob Johnson (copied from ABC7Chicago.com) August 15, 2005 — Chicago police are looking for the driver of a car that hit and injured a woman Monday morning and killed the dog she was walking. The whole thing was caught on surveillance tape. Major accidents investigators are searching for a white car that some witnesses say was carrying four young women who may have been drinking. They are accused of plowing into a woman who was walking dog behind an animal shelter off North Ashland. The volunteer with the animal shelter Furry Friends Foundation is fortunate to be alive. The dog she was walking was killed. Shelter surveillance video shows that just after 7:30 Monday morning, 32-year-old shelter volunteer Holly Burd took Brick, a blind pit bull out for a walk. Within seconds, both were hit by a white car that appeared to swerve to hit them both. After hitting the hood and flipping over the car, Holly looks for Brick, who by then is disoriented. He died moments later. Holly spoke to ABC7 by phone. "They killed a wonderful, wonderful dog, and they hurt me and traumatized me. It's just so heartless and evil," Burd said. Neighbor Dika Doobay heard the crash and came running to help. By then the white car was gone and Holly was understandably shaken. "I saw the dog walker running onto our yard, kind of dragging the dog, and the dog was limp. And she just stopped and stared and was screaming 'Help me, somebody please help me. I can't believe this. Oh, my God,' " said Dika Doobay, neighbor. Monday afternoon at the accident scene, splintered wood and debris remained from the incident, which fortunately for Burd just caused her minor injuries. As for Brick, the cage where he was kept is now empty, and shelter volunteers are saddened to lose a dog to such senseless violence, a dog that only knew abuse until he came to them. "He was the most loving, trusting really sweet dog. To have a dog die like that, and have a volunteer severely injured, it's horrible," said Catherine Hedges, Furry Friends Foundation. If you have any information about the white car in the surveillance video, you are asked to call Chicago police major accidents investigations. there is minimum $1000 reward and more being offered ******************************************** Oh, I just realized that is the link you posted, but here is Brick's original listing...when he was at the shelter. He sounds like such a sweet dog...ok, I'm having a sad night now....to many depressing stories about dogs being killed or dumped... Hi, my name is Brick! Dear, dear Brick. He's obviously has had a very rough life, but he's not bitter. In fact, his sweet nature and willingness to trust have made him a favorite among the Furry Friends Foundation volunteers. Yes, Brick is mostly blind, but he does see light and shadows. His compromised vision makes him a bit tentative at first, but the sound of a quiet, reassuring voice sets his tail wagging immediately. On walks, he is "The Pokey Little Puppy" personified, but as long as you keep on talking (or even better, singing -- he's partial to Stevie Wonder songs), he keeps on walking, picking up steam along the way. Even at full speed, however, it should be noted that Brick's pace rarely exceeds "leisurely", which makes him the perfect companion for a quiet Sunday stroll. When he's not tooling around town on his leash, Brick absolutely loves being brushed, and when you reach around to brush his chest and neck, he'll shower you with grateful kisses. He loves treats, and he'll gently take them from your hand. And on top of all that, he's extremely housebroken. Brick would be the perfect companion for someone who needs a very special friend to care for and spoil forever. In addition to relaxing walks and lots of treats, Brick would prefer a home with minimal stairs and a forever-friend with a fairly quiet lifestyle. Is this you? If so, come and meet Brick. He could be the sunshine of your life. |
