Stop California SB861 BSL - Voice Your Concern
From Responsible Pet Owners Alliance,
the reasonable voice regarding animal issues. Responsible Pet Owners Alliance is an animal welfare organization, not "animal rights" and, yes, there is a difference. Permission granted to crosspost. ************************************************** * TX-RPOA E-News September 8, 2005 Ask Governor Schwarzenegger to Veto SB 861 NOW! It's on his desk. Call the governor and send a fax. Use the LobbyNow Tool http://dpca.lobbynow.com/issues?SB861Governor created by Doberman Pinscher Club of America to send the fax. SB 861 will allow California cities and counties to establish spay/neuter programs and requirements for breeders of specific breeds of dogs - circumventing existing law prohibiting breed specific legislation in the state. If California's SB 861 becomes law, similar legislation will be proposed in every state legislature in the US. SB 861 is supported by "Animal Rights" groups in CA as the bill would force sterilization of certain breeds of dogs and open the door for more of their agenda driven legislation. We cannot stress enough the importance of getting the governor to veto this bill. It will have a disastrous effect on all dog owners in the future - no matter where you live. Tell that to Governor Schwarzenegger! Now! ************************************************** * Forward from: Dante DeAngelis We have a good chance for a veto. It is going to take many people to get involved - both Californians and non-Californians. Senator Speier, the sponsor of SB 861, is planning to run for Lieutenant Governor. Senator Tom McClintock, our prime spokesman on the floor of the Senate the other day, is also planning to run for the same position. McClintock does not want to give to Senator Speier the ability to trumpet 861 as a major legislative accomplishment in that election. He is taking the lead in lobbying for us against 861. When you use the LobbyNow Tool you will be sending a fax letter to Governor Schwarzenegger as well as an e-mail. The LobbyNow Tool will generate many different versions of letters. The Talking Points you see will be different than what others see. The Tool will randomly display a small number of available Talking Point Groups. The next person using the Tool will see a different selection of Groups. Your fax needs to be no longer than one page! When you add your own comments you must keep the one page limit in mind. If you have a lot of comments, that's great! In that case, don't choose any Talking Points. Your letter to the Governor can make all the difference! Pick up the phone and call your friends - both Californians and non-Californians - and ask them to use the Tool to send their letters. Non-Californians should use the Tool but should consider excluding your mailing addresses. We especially need more participation from California voters to put SB 861 to sleep! This does not mean non-Californians should not send your faxes. You should! Senator McClintock's Chief of Staff made that very request today. Here is the URL to send your letters: http://dpca.lobbynow.com/issues?SB861Governor We need to get an overwhelming response to the Governor. Time is of the essence. After finishing, please call the Governor's automated system by dialing: (916) 445-2841 Press option 2, then 6, then 2. It is very easy and you will NOT speak with a live person. It is basically a poll. These will be counted in addition to our letters. Regards, Dante DeAngelis |
