Wild dogs blamed for sheep deaths

Wild dogs are continuing to take a heavy toll on sheep numbers on properties in New South Wales' Snowy Mountains.

Farmers say the dogs are breeding up within the big Kosciuszko National Park and are roaming out onto adjoining farms in search of food.

The NSW Farmers Association has organised protest meetings at Delegate and Cooma this week because of what it says have been inadequate measures taken by the National Parks and Wildlife Service to control the wild dog numbers.

Marion Kennedy is a grazier from the Yaouk Valley, north of Adaminaby, and she says the continuing dog attacks threaten the very viability of sheep farming in the area.

"Back in the '60s there were 60,000 sheep in the valley. If you gathered up 1,500 today you would be lucky," she said.

"I mean, we've cut our numbers back to half of breeding ewes because they're just slaughtering them."

How sad is that then, sad fact is, most like to blame the fox, when in fact its wild doggies. Really though, how did this happen, why do people not care for their doggies the right way.
