Well finally something rather than the "PITLBULL" made it on the news. Unfortunately a liver & white springer attacked a little girl near Mashpee, Massachusetts the other day while she was waiting to be picked up on the front porch of her friends house. He came out of the door and just grabbed her. The dog had never attacked before and was euthanized. Apparently they can suffer from something called RAGE SYNDROME
that can be treated with prozac. It is something that just comes out in the breed without warning. Anyone ever hear of it??Then wouldn't ya know yesterday there was another pitbull attack on the news! He broke through the screen window and attacked and badly injured two elderly men. One of the men was bitten by a different pitbull a long time ago that was owned by the same owner of this one. Once again negative publicity for this wonderful bully breed! |

Hmm... "Rage syndrome" is unfortunately now just thrown around whenever a Springer bites. There's still alot of debate on this "syndrome", and many consider it to be sort of epileptic activity; or an inherited neurologic disorder.
Here are some articles on the matter. http://www.essfta.org/Health_Research/aggression.htm http://www.vetinfo.com/daggressp.htm...age%20syndrome http://www.springershowcase.com/art1no2.htm#stephen From what I've read, Springers have statistically bitten more people than pitbulls (just as Labs and Cocker Spaniels have, too), but Pit Bulls statistically do more damage when they bite. I suppose it's easier for legislators to malign a specific breed when the bite from it kills more than others. I cringe whenever I read about ANY dog attack, no matter the breed. I have shared my entire life with many wonderful Springer Spaniels. All were very sweet, gentle dogs. I hope that "Springer Rage" isn't picked up and sensationalized by the media. |
