Standing up for the Bullies

Motivated by my rapid heart rate and shaking limbs, I called up a radio station on which the DJ was talking about a local rescue group going to LA to rescue pit bulls.

He was saying:

that they should not be bringing the vicious dogs into NY, and that our cities and state should ban them.

that it was in their nature to be vicious and aggressive towards people.

Asking why on earth someone would bring that breed into their home when they could kill and maul their children at the drop of a hat.

Did not believe that all dogs were equal

all of the talk about blaming the people for the dog's behavior is bologne.

The people who own pit bulls are morons

After attempting to explain to him that pit bulls were bred AGAINST human aggression, he just blew off the topic and went on to the next. After I tried to explain to him that the dogs do NOT have these terrible jaws of destruction that are the most powerful on earth, and that they are not terrible man-eating beasts, he said that we should ban them anyway, until solid proof can be set forth if indeed they were not worthy of being banned. He also brought up all of the things you see on the news about pit bulls killing and disfiguring all of these people. I tried to tell him that the people who DO use pit bulls as status symbols are not going to be the ones that will be abiding by the laws. The news is targeting the pit bulls right now, just as they previously targeted rottweilers, shepherds, dobermans, etc. but won't report about the pomeranian in the area that killed an infant.

In the end, it was like talking to an ignorant wall.

He hung up on me at the end so that he could end the conversation without interruption from me... saying that Canada is smarter than us and ahead of us in this, because they have banned pit bulls.

I just wanted to share with you guys about my experience today. I'm sure I probably forgot to mention something else that he said... but all of this gives you a pretty clear picture of what kind of person this was. I'm glad I had the cojones (as mentioned earlier, brought on by pure rage-- I was literally shaking) to call this guy and stand up for my beloved bull breeds.

Good for you. If you educated one person or made one person think... which must be the case, as not everyone in this world is as dumb as that deejay sounds, then you've made a difference for pits.

It's too bad people with such biased opinions are in positions where they can spread the hate and misinformation to such a large audience. And it's too bad that people will isten and believe what is told to them.

I really wish they would start airing those commercials that people have posted web-sites for on TV. So people can see how wonderful they can be.
