Informed?
I have been reading through these posts and cannot believe some of the messages. Puggles are the most affectionate, smart, friendly playful dogs. These dogs are truly worthy of their existance. We personally own two puggle dogs. I have to say, they are truly the perfect breed for us. I
You mention that the reporter is wrong. You believe all these good things said about the puggles is incorrect. I can vouche for my dogs. They do not shed much. They are actually good in that aspect. I believe some of you are being hypocritical and really do not know the truth about about the 'puggle'. I for one love the breed and have no remorse, Thank you. |

pugglelovr, whether or not your dogs make excellent pets, it is irresponsible to advocate the horrible breeders that breed these mixed breed dogs.

You started out your post with "informed?" Yes, I'm very well informed on the unethical breeding practices of the puggle, the doodles and whatever other cute little name they decide is currently "in" for these mixed breed dogs. What is the temperament of a puggle? There is no consistency there, no standard to breed toward. There is no betterment of the breed, because it's not a breed, it's a mutt. It's a crapshoot. You could end up with the worst of both breeds. Dogs are being treated more like accessories, like a handbag. Celebrities have them, a teenage daughter wants one, but you are dealing with a living, breathing being, not a bracelet you can toss in the drawer next week. Take a pug's warm personality and mix it with a beagle's superior snout. The result, in theory: a dog with big eyes, floppy ears, a lovely personality and none of the breathing problems that plague pugs. Of course beagles are known for incessant baying. So another puggle possibility could be a dog that barks constantly and has terrible sinuses. There is something called hybrid vigor, where animals of mixed parentage don't suffer the same gene-related maladies that purebreds do. But, that doesn't mean picking up a designer dog for a pet is less risky than adopting a purebred. We simply do not have enough information on these mutts ( yes, that is what they are, mutts with a high dollar price tag. By the way, a dog of mixed heritage can be found at any shelter for a third of the cost. ) to see what health problems will develop. If breeders begin mating puggles with puggles, for example, there's always the danger that bad genes become locked into the blossoming "breed." This is something that reputable / ethical breeders attempt to avoid at all cost. Ethical breeders aren't interested in breeding for profit, their interested in the betterment of the breed and aren't breeding without genetics in mind. Dog breeds of today are the product of man. While some, like the Greyhound; are ancient, others like the Doberman Pinscher and Parsons Terrier have only been around since the 19th century. One of the biggest dangers is that these so called "designer" breeders do not have the same pressure on them as the pure bred breeder does. They don't have buyers pressuring them for information about the parents, their heritage nor do they demand proof of the breeders triumphs. One of my points among many is this long winded reply is that while your lovely pets may be awesome, no two are identical in any way, while you may not have a problem with shedding or temperament there are others that do. Vouching for your own dogs is fine but before you vouch for them all please tell me how you can be so certain their all alike when even the veterinarians and scientists cannot. Quote:

Puggles confuse me. I mean, yes, some are cute, but some look like mini Bloodhounds (??) and others look kinda like Boxers (?). I'm just wondering who is saying these are so great and you're getting the best of both worlds? I'm sure some puppies bark excessively and are really hyper... I don't think these hybrids are something to breed for, since small dogs are only 'companions,' and if they look so much like other breeds, why not get a Boxer, Bloodhound, or better yet, a Pug or a Beagle? A family member got a high quality show boxer for $900, and I can see my local pet store selling a Puggle for twice that. I can already predict this fad-- everyone will buy these Fruitydoodle puppies, deprive them of socialization; then put them in the shelters when something better or cuter comes along, and the people who feel sorry for them will have to try and rescue the thousands of them in the pounds.
