Need Advice Please. . .
So for the longest time I was feeding my beagle mix (Ronny)and my Beagle /Pug mix (Lola) Canidae. I would also rotate with California Natural and tried Innova once both brands I like as well, but Canidae was always cheaper.
About 8 months ago Lola started getting these episodes of pain and crying and whining, refusing to eat in the mornings sometimes. She also was experiencing a lot of gas, the vet thought food intolerance or allergy but she has no skin / ear problems, the episodes got worse so I went to a new vet for a second opinion and he ran tests and her blood work was fine and the XRay looked fine except she had food sitting in her stomach undigested for over 3 hours and she was extremely constipated. I'm thinking it has something to do with Canidae's formula change but not totally sure. She was put on canned pumpkin, cat lax jelly, and Science diet W/D canned for a couple weeks then to move her to a better canned dog food brand. She did great on SD I then moved her to Innova Senior Canned and she did ok but I feel a little uneasy about the whole menu foods thing and I want her on a canned/dry diet if possible or just dry. Now she's on wet Wellness Senior and Pet Promise and dry Pinnicle, she is still having the episodes just not as often only once every week or so. I guess with her constipation and gas issues she needs a low fat, low protein, high fiber diet? (I always thought the opposite was best, high protein low carb/grain) Is Innova Senior wet and dry my only other option? (she's only 3yrs. so is senior food ok long term?) What about grain less would that be helpful with her digestive issues? I hate to see her in pain anymore-I want to make the episodes stop but I don't want to have to feed her Canned Science Diet W/D the rest of her life. I'm not even sure why it works so well, it's crap food. I'm very picky about my dog food and want good organic meats, no menaodine, limited ingredients for allergies (just in case), obviously no corn, soy, wheat, etc.and a company that maybe manufactures their own food-at least dry but would prefer wet and dry. |

I would try several brands of food until you find the one that she can digest best, eventhough it means to feed a more low quality food. Keep an eye on the ingredience, so you may be able to figure out what she reacts to in the food.
You may even want to do a raw diet exclusion diet, to know exactly what causes the uncomfort. A dog food that is pretty good, and close to a raw diet is Platinum Natural Dog Food, European revolution in pet nutrition You don't have to feed much of it, comes in sealed bags and stays fresh, it is called a dry food but when you see and feel it, it is kinda soft. I have had very good experiences with it. Sometimes dryfood is really dry , and if dogs don't drink enough it is hard to pass. You could try to add some warm water to the dryfood and let it soak for 20min before you feed it.

Sorry to hear you are having such a time food. I have been down that way before, and it was not to pretty. My dogs were on Canidae and they did ok on it, but when they got the new formula my dogs started to itch, having loose stools, and refusing to eat.
So i knew i had to switch dog food quick before it got worse. But i did not want just any type of food it was time to get picky on foods. I came to the conclusion that i had to find a dog food that was gain-free with No Corn, No Soy, No By-Products. I wanted something that had REAL meat with Fruits & Vegetables and something that had nothing but healthy ingredients in the dog food for my fur kids that was healthy for them. So after doing lots and lots of MORE research on dog foods, i came across "Taste of the Wild" on the Dog Food Reviews - Main Index - Powered by ReviewPost site. It was rated a 6 out of 6 star dog food. So i went to the "Taste of the Wild" dog food site Taste of the Wild : Home and as i was reading about the food i was totally impressed and knew i had to give this a try. I wanted to try the Taste of the Wild Wetlands formula for my dogs. It has been almost 2 months since my fur kids have been on this food and i am so impressed with this dog food all i can say is "WOW" my dogs look fantastic and their coat are so shiny and so soft. Stools are great, no more itching and they both have perfect coats. I am impressed and so happy now. I cant believe that I have seen HUGE improvements and the best results in 2 months!! No more worry about foods, and no more worries about finding a food they like because they LOVE this food!! This is the first food Porscha has eaten without me putting something in it to make her eat it. I am sticking with "Taste of the Wild"!! They have my vote on this food! I LOVE knowing that this food is Grain-free and as real duck meat with fruits and Vegetables. I also love knowing that it has NO By-products, No Corn, and No soy and contains nothing but healthy ingredients this food is also for All Life Stages. BIG thumbs up to Taste of the Wild. I am totally impressed!! I recommend this food to anyone wanting to feed their dogs a High Quality dog food that's going to make their dogs look great if you love knowing you are feeding your dogs the best and something that's going to keep them happy and healthy. Taste of the Wild is the answer and will make you proud! I hope this helps.
