Question Kirkland Premium Dog Food, Wet

Question.

So, I feed my dog high end dog food, Nutro. Now with the little one becoming quite a big doggie, this high end dog food habit is becoming expensive. I was at Costco the other day and noticed that Kirkland has a high end dog food line. I read the ingredients, no by products---but did notice that aside from added nutrients, there seemed to be alot of ingredients I can't pronounce.

The price is great, but if it's not good for the boys I won't buy it. Has anyone purchased this brand OR done research on the ingredients? Positive or negative feedback?

Best,

Emily, Frankie and Deano, "The Eatin' Machines"

First I want to mention, Nutro really isn't high end. Its middle ground when it comes to high quality and low quality.

A lot of people feed kirkland because its decent, and decently priced. Myself included. Its made by the Diamond dog food company (Same people who make Chicken Soup dog food). I personally really like it.

Nutro is overpriced for what it is. They also had problems with dogs getting sick off it not so long go. http://dogblog.dogster.com/2008/05/0...utro-pet-food/

The #1 ingred. in those foods is Rice. They split it up so it isn't the first ingredient... but really its mostly rice. Dogs don't need ANY rice but rice is cheap and so they market it and people buy it.

Lamb Meal, Ground Rice, Rice Flour, Rice Bran, Poultry Fat (preserved with mixed Tocopherols, a source of Vitamin E), Natural Flavors, Soybean Oil (preserved with mixed Tocopherols, a source of Vitamin E), Sunflower Oil (preserved with mixed Tocopherols, a source of Vitamin E), Whole Brown Rice, Dried Egg Product, Dried Plain Beet Pulp, Potassium Chloride, L-Lysine, Dried Kelp, Choline Chloride, Zinc Sulfate, Vitamin E Supplement, Taurine, Ferrous Sulfate, Ascorbic Acid (source of Vitamin C), Biotin, Copper Proteinate, Niacin, Manganous Oxide, Calcium Pantothenate, Vitamin B12 Supplement, Riboflavin Supplement (source of Vitamin B2), Vitamin A Supplement, Glucosamine Hydrochloride, Chondroitin Sulfate, Pyridoxine Hydrochloride (source of Vitamin B6), Thiamine Mononitrate (source of Vitamin B1), Vitamin D3 Supplement, Menadione Sodium Bisulfite Complex (source of Vitamin K activity), Calcium Iodate, Folic Acid.

Nutro Max is some skeazy kibble. It's nutro's lowest quality line.. Vets are often taught by dog food companies about nutrition and recieve inadequate knowledge. A vet saying yay that kibble is good is many time a key to no it's really not. Nutro max puppy has no lamb.

There's more crap in that than there is meat. A whole lot of filler and some chicken is not a quality food.

Kirkland dog food made by Diamond is conveniently sold at Costco's world wide. Last time I checked it was 17.99-23.99 [depending where you live] for a 40lb bag, depending on the formula. Due to the price many are lead to believe that this food is just another low quality dog food. Actually Kirkland dog food falls in about the middle of the food quality spectrum.
Kirkland dog food

What I feed my little ones, but its like feeding one big dog, since there are four of them....they last me a long time since I get the 40lb one. My dogs are very picky about foods, but love Kirkland. Pepe doesn't hve skin problems nymore since being on Kirkland. Very GOOD dog food for very low price.
