We gave Lola a haircut this past Saturday.....it was all my hubbys fault though. He thought paying $80.00 for a cut was outrageous...and that we could do the same thing...so why not?? I found a set of clippers on our local cheapcycle...and we gave it a shot!
She was really matted to the skin. Apparently the brush I was using didnt get all the way through her hair...and I have no doubt that a groomer would have had to give her the same cut...but oh my gosh! She looks so different. But she feels better. She has been much more playful and goofy. I dont think we will let her get quite as long again though. ANd the best part is that hubby agrees that the groomer is what would be easiest, and best for lola! This is a before pic...just to refresh your memory.... ![]() And this is her halfway through. (She looks like a lion, or a giant Chinese Crested!) ![]() My son consoling her, and telling her its okay...we love you no matter what your hair looks like! ![]() And the finished product! Ack! She is so skinny!!!!! ![]() ![]() (ignore the laundry in the background....I have really been slacking off!) ![]() We are finally getting used to seeing her this way. She was mad at us for the first few days....but is now back to her normal self. And we have gotten used to seeing our naked girl!! |

I love her new "do".
Bet she feels really good too. I cut my two Yorkies down also and boy do they look different. Their hair was to the floor and now they have the Schnauzer look. I like it because they are soooo much easier to bathe and brush, and they act like little kids that have just been undressed........free! |

Wow!!! Big difference!! I wonder what my border cross would look like shaved....when she gets a good brushing or is wet she looks so tiny compared to when she's dry or hasn't gotten a good brushing...then she looks huge.

Those pics are so cute!!! I can sure relate on how different they look after a total take down...you'd never know it was the same dog!
Glad she's not mad at you anymore, bet you she will feel so cool during those hot summer days. |

What a transformation!!
Lola looks a bit like a Jack Russell now! My dog, Harley's fur isn't sooo long, but sometimes in the summer he goes down to the grooming salon to get clipped and he looks like a different dog! I don't like it much, because I love his naturally big furry neck. |

I know she was shaved because the fur was matted...so fair enough but. She looked much better before. LOL I hope you let her hair grow long again and just find a better brush. She's such a drop dead GORGEOUS creature with all her fur. ![]() Cass. |

I LOVE pictures of your sweet girl! She is BEAUTIFUL!! I agree with the before cut, but it's more important that she's comfortable, and manageable for you.
She's still the cutest thing ever! ![]() |

Thanks for the comments! She has taken some getting used to with the short cut! I think I would not have known her if she walked past me on the street.
BigDogLover, We have been using a slicker brush...which I realized was totally WRONG!!! It was brushing the top 3 inches of her hair, but totally missing the bottom 3 inches. I have been looking for a good pin brush or a rake type brush. I have been reading up on a forum for the old english sheepdogs, and getting some good grooming advice and tips for a novice like myself! Im not used to matting, and all the diff. products that are out there for taking care of a coat like hers! Cassiepeia, Dont worry, we LOVED her with the longer coat, and intend to get back to several inches of hair. I just have to start from scratch apparently. And thanks for your sweet comments about our girl. We love her shaggy face and coat too. She seems to be much more approachable with the shaggy fur. She is naturally a noisy, barky dog....and now people just sort of give her a look....before they overlooked the fact that she was so noisey because she was very pettable, and hugable! Thanks for looking gang!! |

I understand the feeling--Brandy looks more like a greyhound when we get her shaved! She totally looks like a different dog. Either way, I think you have a real cutie there. You're a lot braver than I am in giving her a cut yourself.
