The Loving and ever so Dashing Rasta

Please pay no attentiont o the VERY muddy back door. It was raining last week and the dogs scratch at the door after eliminating.

Here is one of Rasta's paws and Goose's paws. Per the vet they are seperated by about 4 months in age.....about 20 lbs.

He is so handsome. He just has the sweetest face, too.

It's good to see him filling out and looking really happy and healthy! Just gorgeous!

I was worried there for a little while. I really could not get him to gain any weight. He was being fed up wards of 7 cups a day of Canidae and no weight gain. My vet did some blood work but nothing abnormal came up so we didn't knwo what to do.

We bought a lessor quality dog food (Eagle Pack) because the vet said it was higher in calories and we are now feeding him both Eagle Pack and Canidae. He eats between 7 and 9 cups a day...yes 9 BUT he has gained 10 lbs in the last couple of months. So it is working.

nope....We feed him 4 times a day. 1.5-2.5 cups each time. He has his own blend of dog food, half EP and half Canidae.

The vet thinks that once he hits 2 or so he will level out and we can go back to feeding him like a normal dog and not a pony. He thinks Rasta is Great Dane and Lab. Thus the fast metabolism. Plus they spend the day (they= Rasta and Goose) chasing each other through the yard, house and any where else they can run as well as playing on the trampoline so they are VERY active.

Rasta is absolutely beautiful

I love seeing pics of him!!

I hope for your sake that he does eventually start to fill out and keep some weight on - I can't believe he eats 9 cups a day!!!!

I know it. I try not to think about it....We do have quite a HUGE portion of the biudget right now in dog food.

I can see the resemblance of a dane in him.

Wow! 9 cups of food... boy I'd say that's a huge part of the budget. LOL Cause that's not even including what your other pups eat!

But, you've gotta do what you gotta do.

My boss brings his dog in ALOT. He says he seems to eat and feel better when he's there. So, he's fed twice a day (horrible food of course = Beneful or Eukanuba) 4 cups each time. He'll eat over 8 cups sometimes (I'll give him a little extra), and he's still skinny as ever. He loses weight like it's nothing. The past couple of days though he seems to be filling out. But even my aunts mom has a dane and they have a horrible time keeping weight on him too.

My boys ALWAYs have dirt on them....they could have just had baths and the first thing they do when they get outside is a good game of muddy bitey face...dang dogs.

Yeah, the only person I know with a Dane has the same issues.
At least we seem to have figured things out for him. I mean he gets Eagle Pack for his fattening food...still better then alot of them out there....plus he still gets his canidae. I hope some day we are able to put him back on just the canidae.
