If you read my post "Mom spoiled us" or something like that, you will know that i got a bunch of new stuff for the dogs. Well, i went on a walk, using my new coupler, frisbee, and bandanas. It was great, except i found out the hard way that Simetra doesnt come when she has her brain set on birdy mode, for now on she gets to stay on the 30' leash, until i teach her to come reliably. Anyway, we had a great time, and i got lots of pictures to prove it! Plus, to make it even better, i got some "natural" pictures of Sophie. Pictures of how she normally looks, when the camera is put away. She got to use on of A.j.'s bandanas.
These are from last night: ![]() ![]() ![]() A.j. and Simetra, just after coming in from playing outside. ![]() What i saw when i looked back to see what the dogs were doing. ![]() I found out this morning that Simetra is a stasher. Over all, she had stashed 4 tug-o-war toys, 2 balls, and a chunk of rawhide bone in her crate. (Ignore the dirt, im need to clean their crates out soon) And the walk: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Simetra, Sophie, and A.j. patiently waiting to go "bye-bye". ![]() ![]() Sophie and A.j. playing. ![]() Then Simetra decided to be brave get into the middle of it. ![]() A.j. just sitting there. ![]() Simetra would NOT stop watching the birds. I guess my friend was right, she DID train Simetra a little bit in hunting, but.. she didnt teach the MOST important things, "Leave it" and "Come". Simetra is constantly staring or searching for birds, its really annoying. But im in the process of teaching her the 2 important commands. ![]() I have no idea what he wanted. He was just standing there staring at me for a long time, i think he wanted me to put the camera down and play. ![]() Sophie just sitting there. Just before this picture, she was eating cat poo and wouldnt listen to me so i lightly bumped her in the side to tell her to get moving. She is so spoiled, she just sat, pouting, for about 10 minutes. ![]() Simetra "gracefully" flipping her ears. ![]() ![]() All the dogs watching a truck go by. A.j.'s fat head is covering up Sophie, though. ![]() ![]() This is kind of A.j.'s submissive stance. I like to get my dogs submissive, but NOT scared of me. So far A.j. is the only one to do that. I just like to be able to say "No!" and they will lay down and surrender, instead of putting up a fight like Wiener does a lot of the time. A.j.'s face is so cute and squishy in this picture, though. ![]() *More in next post* |

Here are the rest of the pictures:
![]() A.j. paying attention to me and Simetra paying attention to some birds (like always). ![]() Sophie still pouting. You can tell in this picture that she is trying to ignore me. ![]() A.j. standing kool. ![]() Sophie coming out of her pout mood and taking off to chase A.j. ![]() I accidentally got my finger in it, but i love Sophie's face in this picture! That is her wide-eyed, "I hate you" look. ![]() ![]() Simetra trotting around. ![]() Sophie just winning a tug-o-war fight with A.j., using my poor new frisbee. ![]() The staredown... ![]() Cute Sophie. ![]() Sophie standing awesomely. ![]() Long distance Sit/Stay. She's even ignoring the frisbee! ![]() ![]() A.j. sitting weird. ![]() ![]() Already tired. ![]() Sophie checking out something in the grass. ![]() The springers tied up while i got a leash on Sophie and got the frisbee. ![]() Sophie frowning at some kids. Ok, thats all! I really like all the stuff i got! The coupler is great if you put the right dogs on it. I had put A.j. and Simetra on it together for a few minutes, that did NOT work, A.j. likes to be ahead of everyone (even though im trying to break him of that) and Simetra likes to be a little bit behind the heel position. Sophie likes to be right behind me (i have no idea why) when walking, so Simetra and Sophie almost stay right by each other. Also, thank you, IceyBlueSibes for giving me tips about picture taking! I did that in a lot of these pictures (if you didnt notice), and i think they do look a lot better. Some of them i think are a little too far down. I was laying down while taking them, and will most likely be sore tomarrow from dogs stepping on me. ![]() |

Roman - Thanks!
Im still deciding on Simetra. I really like her and she is the perfect match for A.j., but its just hard taking 2, 50 pound dogs everywhere with me. I would just leave her home, but Sophie and Wiener would pick on her all day. I take A.j. everywhere with me because he is going to be my sports and 4-H dog, so i need him used to different places. So im kind of stuck in the middle, waiting for a reason to sell or to keep her. Doglover - Thank you! Yeah, they did! Even though they are all passed out on my bed right now. ![]() Calgal - Lol, yeah, they probably are. They are probably waiting for me to magically just have a ball all of a sudden and throw it for them. They arent too interested in the frisbee yet (well Sophie is, but shes trained a little bit in frisbee), but im introducing it to them slowly so maybe i can have 3 good frisbee dogs. Thank you! Lol, yeah, i like that one, too. Its accually my bed though. He was probably peeking over to see if i was going to invite him onto the bed or not. |

Great pics Mirg!
I know what you mean about bird chasing - River is one of those and I've actually taught him a command to go with it (people at the park and beach love it!!!) which I accidentally discovered is also really useful for getting him to turn around and come back once he's done his "job" - might be worth trying with Simetra once you've got come and leave it under control??? |

Rivsky - Thank you!
Yeah, i taught A.j. to ignore birds until i give him the command (Birdy or Get Them), but i also taught him to keep after the birds until i give him the "Okay", "Leave It", or a whistle command. I use this for hunting, if he keeps after the birds, they dont just land agian. But, of course, it is difficult sometimes because the dog has to try to keep the birds in-range of my gun. He's doing good so far, though. Im hoping to teach Simetra that, but its going to be extremely hard to teach her to ignore birds until i tell her to get them. Ive tried to get her attention to a ball, a tug-o-war toy, and a frisbee, but her hunting instincts keep taking over. Im hoping i can get her trained before Fall, or else she will have to stay on a leash or stay home when i take A.j. hunting. But, i have plenty of time. That sounds kool, what you taught River! Even if i just taught her that, it would be great, she could help spring the birds, and A.j. would keep them up. k9hullio - Thanks! Yeah, i love the bandanas i got. The only problem is that Sophie's neck is too short, so her bandana sticks out most of the time. Well, the dogs had a great time. My hands were frozen and i was really tired from trying to teach Simetra to stay close. She's even starting to teach A.j. (who usually knows not to go more than 30 feet away) to go farther than he should. I might go agian today (and maybe more pictures ) but have my long leash on Simetra. But, i have to admit, i did have fun. ![]() |

Great photos!
I love the bandannas, and it's great to see your dogs enjoy playing with their new frisbee. |

Thanks, Swiftwind and DL8!
![]() Yeah, ive loved the look of dogs with bandanas on, ever since about 5 years ago, when we almost took in an ACD named Gideon. He was found on the streets by someone who took him to a shelter. He was found with a raggedy, red bandana on but no collar. The shelter decided that the collar was the only thing the dog owned so they let him keep it lol. I would have loved to keep Gideon, but he kept charging at my brother so we only had him for a few days. But, he really got me liking bandanas on dogs and, if we hadnt taken him back, we wouldnt have our Sophers (Sophie) ! The only problem is that with my dogs, they play so roughly that the bandanas come off unless i tie them really tight, so ive only been putting them on for going somewhere or for pictures. ![]() |
