Angry Neglected and chained dog

My best friend's sister's abusive boyfriend bought himself a "Pitbull" puppy a little less than a year ago, his name is Blue. When he was a puppy he lived inside, sadly..he spent DAYS at a time in his crate, without it being cleaned even. Now, he is chained up in the man's parent's backyard. He is severely neglected. My best friend has tried SOO many times to try and get this guy to allow Blue to live with her.. He agreed to it once, but never brought Blue over..so I offered to take him over there myself, and he changed his mind and won't let him go over there at all.

We went over there a few days ago, and brought him a dog house, and he had NO water, and NO food. He drank a third of a bucket full of water, he was VERY thirsty and dehydrated.

Here are the pictures my friend took before we brought the dog house over (the toys are what she brought over for him to chew):

This dog has SOO much energy he is not allowed to release. Their reason for chaining him is because "He jumps on people". That can EASILY be fixed!! He is so powerful, and can almost knock me over..plus, he humps you. (my best friend told them she would neuter him) but he said "No..I still may want to breed him"

Its illegal here to have a dog chained up for more than 3 hours, but I KNEW they were going to make it so hard to report them. We called, and they said we had to be AT the house in order to report them. How stupid is that?

It is already in the 90s over here, and last summer it got to 114f, and I KNOW it will be hotter than that over here this summer. I just have fears he is going to die from heat exhaustion, or the fate the mans last dog (a german shepherd) suffered, Starvation.

That's really a shame that he's tied up all the time. Were those pictures taken after he had eaten? If not, his belly looks pretty bloated to me and that doesn't seem good.

Are you guys able to get some heartworm preventative and flea/tick medication? Atleast you could put that on him to prevent him from getting parasites (if he doesn't have them already).

It's good that you guys brought a house for him. Whatever "shelter" that guy has tried to set up for him doesn't even look stable. I'd be afraid that wooden board would fall right on him.

That's really silly as far as the reporting thing goes. I've never heard of that. I'd try calling back in a couple of days to find out if someone says any different. Or, could you try a pitbull rescue in your area? Maybe they could contact someone to take care of it.

I only see this dog turning aggressive as it gets older. I've seen a chained, starving pitbull, and it was not a pretty site. My mom fed him what she could, until the dog got loose and attacked a puppy in the development (another pitbull, but the owner was no where near being abusive or wanting to fight). So, the AC was called and they confiscated the dog and euthanized him. The man went to jail for it.

His stomach was definitely bloated in that picture, but when we went back a couple weeks later to take the dog house to him, he was really thin.

I always have a large supply of Frontline,so the next time my friend goes over there, I will give her the dose for him and she can apply it. There are definitely fleas and ticks over there in that backyard.

Never thought of contacting a pit rescue, I am pretty sure there is one here.

He was not raised with other dogs and has not been around one since he was a puppy...So we are almost positive he will probably be aggressive towards other dogs. If he goes to live with my friend (Who has two other dogs) he will have to be tethered (its 10 feet, and will give him lots of room) and muzzled when her dogs are in the backyard, and when they are not he can be untethered and unmuzzled. He will still have to live in her backyard, but atleast he will get training, long walks daily, good food, lots of water, and lots of shade..and of course, lots of love!

I too would call pit rescue, and also try calling the humane society or aspca again and report that he has been chained all the time, not just three hours. That rule of having to be there does not make sense. Just keep trying.

He looks so sweet still now, but may not stay that way forever.

Also, he may not be dog agressive yet, so just keep trying.

Aw, poor dog! He is so handsome! Some people are just so stupid with their dogs.

Good luck on rescuing him and its really great of you to do that for him, and all the dogs youve helped!

That is one of the saddest images I've seen in a while. Please call the shelter and even your local newspaper, TV, and radio.

Have you been documenting it when the dog has no water or food or looks thin/dehydrated (a video of the dog's skin not retracting immediately would be good)? You need to document everything and then go to the authorities with the evidence and make a report. A Pit rescue could probably help you or help provide information on making a case, too.

You are enabling the abuse by just going over and taking care of the dog. Also, it is illegal to chain as a primary means of confinement, if I'm not mistaken. It appears he's in a fenced yard on a chain? I would go for the neglect angle, myself.

We have lots of pictures, and plan on making a trip out the SPCA to report him to them!

Mirg, its Ol' Roy..thats all they can afford to feed him, but atleast hes being fed, their last dog died from starvation.

I just emailed a few rescues right now, to try and get help.

Yepp, they have a fenced yard. But apparantly (we talked to him today) he can jump over it. The man also lied. He said when he goes fishing, he takes Blue with him..when we dropped off the dog house (the first time I had seen Blue since he was a puppy), he was out fishing..and Blue was still there.

Glad you've done that. About the chaining law (because I believe it doesn't apply in this situation):

"The California Senate, on June 1, approved SB 1578, a bill that would prohibit dogs from being chained to a stationary object, such as a tree or fence, as the primary means of confinement." (http://ga0.org/campaign/BanDogChaini...ll/explanation) The fence invalidates the chain as a "primary means of confinement," so there's no case there.

Let us know what happens with the report.

IMO, Ol'Roy isnt that bad, my dogs have been eating it for a few months now and like you can see in pictures, their coats are gorgeous and shiny, theyre muscular, and theyre nice and fat. My dogs get regular vet check-ups and they are all very healthy. Plus, it doesnt take that much to fill the pups up, i got a tiny, 8-pound bag of food about a month ago, and i just ran out. Im gonna shut up now, though, because i dont want to start up any arguments or anything.

Thats great! Make sure to tell us when he gets taken away from his owner (if he does)!

You are entitled to your own opinion.

I personally think its very bad food. The first ingredient is ground corn...
