What a good girl!
Maggie is the only dog I trust 100% with my animals. I trust Gracie but not as much as Maggie. Maggie has absolutely no prey drive but she is very curious.
The little bird is Sprout one of my tame Zebra finches. ![]() |

What a cute little bird! All the finches at work are so untamed. I sometimes wonder if the people who buy them could ever tame them! Which is the Zebra finch of yours that lays on his back? I don't think I would ever own birds again though..Too messy. (I had parakeets when I was younger..I might get a Sun Conure someday in the future..They have such personality!)

Thanks for the comments! I would love to have a conure one day or a parrotlet. I will probably get some sort of parrot when my 17 year old cockatiel passes away. haha both my tame guys lay on their backs. It's pretty much impossible to tame a Zebra finch. They stress very easily. The reason mine are tame is because they were raised by me from a week old instead of by their parents. My other 4 finches freak out when I just walk by their cages.

They are TOo cute for words!! Our Sun Conure at work was handfed..but he is not a nice bird, to anyone but me that is. He licks my face, hands,etc..And comes out of the cage for me, Fluffs up when I whistle to him..but for everyone else, he bites them and squawks loudly at them. I don't think he will be adopted, cause hes not friendly to anyone buy myself. Maybe he can be my bird away from home lol.

The sad fact is that when birds are handfed and then thrown in a cage and forgotten about they aren't friendly anymore. This happens to most pet store birds. Birds also seem to know if people are scared or intimidated and will bite those people. I had a similar experience with a cockatoo at the petstore. The girl warned me not to touch him or he would bite but after a few seconds I was scratching him on his head and under his wing and the girl who worked their's mouth was almost dropped to the floor.

True. We are supposed to weigh him daily, and everyone else just grabs him with a net, puts him on the scale..And then throws him back in his cage. They all warned me about how mean he was. I just sat on the floor, talking to him..getting him to come onto my hand..Whistling to him , giving him treats. He soon was licking me all over, fluffing his feathers..Chirping. Playing with me, tuggies on my shirt..and Grabbing my glasses ..lol. Hes too cute! He seems to be doing much better out on the sales floor, before he was in our "New Arrival Room", which is a closet, no windows..Only human interaction is twice a day when the associates change the water and food. Hes out with people now, and has calmed down a lot!
When i clean the small animal cages, I let them run around on the floor..which is decent free range space...the other associates just put them in kritter keepers, and they don't give them much human interaction, which is very crucial for these animals! They didn't get any human interaction at the "breeders", and a lot of them have been here quite some time. we don't sell that many animals. I like to give them some human interaction, I hold them atleast 5 minutes each day, and I talk to them and give them yogies and treats and what not. I work part time, so I can;t do this daily..I just hope their lives improve mentally! The only good thing is, we give them lots of toys..chews, etc..So they don't get bored. |

What a cute picture!!!
Chloe is exactly like that with Pheobe and my ferrets. But for some reason, the bird doesn't qualify. lol That is the reason I won't buy from petstores that don't handle their animals (aka Petsmart) if I want a tame critter. Never again will I buy a bird from a Petstore (the difference in Joey and Abby's temperments never cease to amaze me!) and why in the future I will buy my rodents from a local feed depot who handles their animals.... |
