Long time no see!
See new photos, that is! Sorry Caitlin, no photos of Vega yet - that'll be next week, whee!
If this is how Trice stands naturally, getting him to free stack should be a dream! Big Dobe, Little Dobe! What's down there? ![]() |

Furry, that's not foil. It's tape. There's some kind of glare in the photo.
Sizzle, you have a lot of stuff on his ears. LOL. Are you using the tampon method? Or is there that foam insulation stuff in there? I used the tampons and got razzed by some men around here. They said, "First you cut off his nuts and then you make him wear tampons." LOL. But Lyric had the back taped tampons and one strip of tape around the top and one around the bottom. His fur showed inbetween the two strips and it wasn't as thick. So, that's why I wondered if you were using that foam stuff or what. I also didn't brace inbetween the ears. I know some do and some don't. And we had to post till he was about a year old! His ear leather is quite thin on the end and the crop goes all the way to the tip...long. But I find that the posting was not an unpleasant thing as we used paper tape and some pre- streched vet wrap over, so there was no hair pulling when changing the posts. I think it makes these dogs more tolerant to weird things we have to do to them, don't you? Lyric doesn't fuss about anything and he holds very, very still for me, no matter what I have to do...express anal glands, brush teeth, Dremel nails, poke, prod....you name it...good as gold. Your Ilsa has beautiful ears and I bet this new pup will too. It is fun to see how they come along. |

Actually I'm using the Sandi Method - basically, she takes those blue paper shop towels and wraps them into tight cyllinders, then tapes/backtapes them. She cuts one end into a wedge, then inserts into ear.
One problem though - he's having his ears reposted next week, but he's bee getting the bottoms of the posts out. I needto find a way to keep them in, but I'm getting nowhere fast! Maybe put a stiff brace along the top? |

I tried using those shop paper towels too, but couldn't make them stiff enough, so I went back to the tampons. LOL. Yeah....can't let them come out of the bottom or ya get pockets....then it's disastersville. You've seen those ear jobs where the ears lean in toward eachother, sometimes crossing on top...ugggg....terrible!
Good luck! LOL...Toward the end, his ears were growing so tall, that the tampons couldn't be extended anymore to reach the tips. So, I looked around the house for something to attach to extend them. "Hmmm, this? How 'bout this?" I found an old rubber spatula which I cut up and wedged a little rectangle piece into the end of the tampon and taped it to that. Every time I changed his posts, I had to pick the tape off (no easy task) so I could save my little rubber wedge. LOL. |

Again, beautiful pup!! I used the tampons, then the foam on my last Giant Schnauzer pup. His ear leather was soooo thick that I had a really hard time. The buyer was nice enough to pay extra for my work, and she has mailed pics to me since and the ears look good.
I notice someone said that if the leather is too thin it's a longer post? I didn't know that...I thought it was just for the thick ones. Learn something new everyday!!! Good info if we do end up getting a Dobe in the future!! |
