Need Fundraising Ideas.

I've been trying to come up with some fundraising ideas to pass along to the other volunteers and staff at the humane society. The truth of it is, this organization (and all alike) needs a lot more support and funding from the community. They typically have "Tail wagger bowl-a-thons", and silent auction dinners, I just want to give them some more ideas.
I've got a couple in mind, but am pretty stumped as to what else to suggest.
I thought the "Plop and Drop" would be good. Someone here mentioned that one to Crossfire about raising money for her new rescue, so that wasn't really my idea...LOL. I'm also going to mention having benefit golf tournaments. To be honest, no matter what the cause, you can always fill a tournament up with people just wanting to golf. I could probably fill 2 tournaments just through my work...HAHA.
But that's all my limited creativity can come up with for some reason So, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Sell raffle tickets for something very special. Maybe you or someone you know could donate something really, really nice. I did this one time with a life size Yorkie statue (paid $400.00 for it) and was able to raise $6000.00. I missed that statue so much that a couple years later I bought another one. The lady who hand makes them is Lynda Pleet. She makes ALL breeds, and boy are they ever beautiful!!

I would love to do a taste of event in my area, and that might be a good idea for yours as well. I have been contacting local radio stations, but they have not contacted me back, I am not giving up. In Florida there was always a taste of event about two times a year, where you get local restaurants(it is a tax deduction for them) to donate food(this is also good advertising) and you sell tickets, each both is a different amount of tickets. When we went we got a sheet of about 10 tickets for $20 and it was about 3-4 tickets a booth, we ended up spending about $100. With all the people that attended it raised almost a half million dollars just in three days. Just an idea, If I can get mine of the ground I will let you know.

In the last town I lived in they did a picture contest at the local mall. You brought in a picture of your pet, the pictures were posted in the mall, and they charged a $1.00 to vote for the cutest pet.

It seemed to go over well and was quite easy to co-ordinate. The cutest pet got it's picture done by a local photographer, this was donated.

Good luck.

I work for Tails Humane Society. We have various fundraisers throughout the year, some larger, some smaller. I believe we have two major fundraisers. The first is a semi-formal dance and silent auction with a tropical theme: Tropical Tails. This year it pulled in about $40K. On this Saturday, it's "Black Tie and Tails." This is our formal benefit dinner. We have Wayne Pacelle (president of the HSUS) coming and getting a tour of the shelter and then going to the dinner to speak. There's also a wildlife group giving a presentation about owls (complete with live birds!).

As for smaller fundraisers, for holidays, we offer pet portraits with Santa, the Easter Bunny, etc. We also buy dog toys at wholesale cost and get JoAnn Fabrics to donate baskets. We make up holiday baskets with toys and rawhides and treats and offer them. We make a tidy profit on that as well.

The local college's vegan group puts together a bikeathon called "Trails for Tails" every year and that's always a nice check.

We're kicking around the idea of doing a dog wash and a car wash this summer. I've also talked some of the local bands (read: high schoolers, etc) into charging a cover for their shows and donating part of it to Tails.

One of the other things that really helps with the bills is a little gift shop. We sell collars, leashes, dishes, toys, beds, etc. We have a tag engraver machine and we get sweatshirts and t-shirts and hoodies made up with the Tails logo on them. They go over really well!

We also just started recycling cans for extra $$.

We're always looking for more ideas too!
