Animal Refuge League
Westbrook, ME 207-854-9771 sbritt@arlgp.org German Shepherd Dog Size: Large Age: Adult Sex: Male ID: 032543 ![]() Notes: "Where is my leader?", Harley has been heard to cry. This stunning 1 year old male German Shepherd was found as a stray in Cumberland before finding his way to the Animal Refuge League. Spectacular in looks, although very thin, Harley, like many shepherds, needs to know there is a calm, confident and capable leader in charge so he does not have to take the job. Lots of bark and bluster travel with Harley, who really is a scared boy at heart. It is clear Harley has not spent much time learning about new situations away from his home. Uneasy in the car and with new faces, Harley has magnificent potential to blossom under the watchful eye of a savvy guardian who will see to it that Harley gets to meet and greet lots of people and visit lots of places in order to become a well-rounded canine. Highly sensitive and intelligent, this magnificent breed looks to their handler and family to provide structure, routine and support. Harley is a Meet Your Match™ green "Life of the Party" who has an intense desire to play and learn. In fact, vigorous play is a stress reliever for Harley, who tends to be wound pretty tight. Give this boy a job to do and he will flourish! Harley is not at a stage in his life where he can reside in a busy household with people in and out or young children. An open gate or door and Harley will be gone, and too much activity is unsettling for him. Harley has some ground to make up in terms of reacting to the daily sights and sounds of everyday life. He is a bit of a project right now, but will likely bond deeply and quickly to those he trusts and respects. When alone Harley is anxious, pacing, whining and jumping on counters and tables. A candidate to be crated when home alone, some shepherds panic if given too much freedom all at once. Having free run of his home make be very scary for Harley until he knows the routine. For those who have positive and previous experiences with German Shepherd's who need lots of TLC and hand holding, Harley is the man. This pet is up to date with routine shots. This pet has been altered. |
