I am thinking about opening my own shelter (in a couple of years when i get a few more dollars

) anyone out there got some creative names??? I have thought of,, now this may be a little cheesy.. Sunny Side Up for Dogs! (i only want dogs cuz i am not to fond of cats, but it may expand to and animal) soo got any names?

haha well it will prolly be in 10th grade when i can get a paying job somewhere... it will prolly just start as maybe 3 to 5 dogs most likely! but that is a start! i want to go to college to become a vet, so gotta crack down on my math skills! ugh i hate math, but i am passing with a B, but that isnt good enough! must have all A's to get into good college!! But when i purchase a house i want like 6- 10 acres so the dogs can have a HUGE fenced place to play... then i could seperate the dogs and puppys and maybe have an agility yard! haha my dreams are soo big....

The best thing I can do is volunteer for rescues.

that would be great... just think! if all of us opened no kill shelters! that would save so many lives!!

Yup

What I like about sanctuaries is that the animals stay and wait for homes. They aren't euthanized. I would take in as many animals as possible, no matter what species--not just dogs but cats, horses, goats, etc..

i am just not fond of cats... i mean i would save them from being euthinized (spelling) because they are animals... but you cant rele do anything with them except if its a kitten.... they kinda just lay there and sleep... but i dont kno! hey maybe i will start to like them... haha

Just wanted to pipe up. I have had very interactive, very social, very loving cats over the years. Cats that walked on leashes and knew tricks. They are't all antisocial and just sleep LOL.

I am more of a dog lover than a cat lover, but I actually have met some cats that are actually nice to me and don't hiss and scratch and bite. Here's the list of cats that like me and that I like:

Angel (Siamese)
Mittens (Black/White tabby)
Soule' and Luna (Long-haired, orange tabbies)

I think there are a few others, just can't remember them all, LOL!

the only cat i like is my baby Inky Butt! hahaha! (my next door neighbors renamed him...) my mom said that i could use the carport storage area and do as i please! so it is a nice size i could prolly have like 4-5 full grown dogs and about 6-8 pups! my mom doesnt kno that i want to turn it into a shelter... hehe i am gonna try to keep it a secret until i am ready for the dogs! hahaha but i cleaned it out today.. so i will prolly b ready to have dogs sometime in April at the latest! cant wait till then!

Well, if you are ever going into an area that has lots of strays, I suggest having treats, collars and leashes available. You also have to remember that not all animals will be all happy and that its expensive to care for a lot of animals.

There should be metal cages in the area, because obviously you don't want them together ALL the time, especially unaltered ones. Or you could get a bunch of exercise pens and have a litter of pups in one, a dog to each.

ooo yes metal cages is a must! there is going to be two full grown dogs at the most together in dog runs! the pups i think will be fine if they are together...but i am thinking that around my bday i should have about 600$... i kno it isnt alot but i will only be fostering them, but also the vet bill will be Very high! but it is worth the shot! maybe my grandpa can send me a few extra dollars! hahaha! i will have a few leashes and have a HUGE yard sale where i can get about 100-400$ on some of my stuff i dont use! and lemme tell ya there is tons of it! haha! there is also a huge area beside my dad's workshop that can fit five 7ft by 4ft dog runs! i will be using it since no one does! the only problem that it isnt inside! i may build a hut or something around it! but any ideas of jobs that pay high? haha i need the money for the dogs! until i "open" the "shelter" i will prolly be voulunteering at the haven or shelter! whewww! that is a pretty big thing to open in only a couple of months! but i think i can pull it off!hahaha!
