River CCD

I am absolutely thrilled to bits, today River managed to complete his CCD title with a 3rd pass and a first place in the ring with a score of 96/100

He just couldn't be faulted in his work today - I lost the points we did lose (ie walking into him on the first halt in the heelwork and not setting him up at the peg straight for the SFE so his stand was crooked) and I was especially thrilled that he got all his drops without me having to bend down and am especially proud of his heelwork score of 28/30 - the last time we were under this judge we got 23/30 so it's great to see we've improved since then.

This is the video:

We've actually got another trial tomorrow which will basically be a free shot so will try and remember to make sure I'm walking in a straight line and don't step into River on any positions, well that's my goal anyway

And a photo of my very proud little boy with his winnings:

Big congrats.
If we had to do what you had to do for that title, most dogs here would fail.
There sure is way more to your CD then ours.

Yey for River!!!

I don't remember....do you do Rally-o with him, or is it "traditional" obedience? I wish I could have competed with Blackie more....he did SUCH a good job, but he can't handle the heat/stress/activity of a trial. I had hopes that Chloe would be a good obedience dog, but....we're going to have to wait a few years yet. LOL

CONGRATULATIONS!! River is amazing in that video! This may be a silly question, but do you make up your own 'routine', or do you get told exactly what you have to do (eg, where to walk, what to do at certain points etc)?

Thanks everyone.

we got another pass today with 92/100 which I'm very happy with, we were last on and had such a big day yesterday so we were both a bit tired but did well.

Ritz I do traditional obedience, unfortunatley we don't have any rally-o comps here, though if we ever do I'd definitely enter some they sound like a lot of fun.

Swift the judge calls the heel pattern, so you get told forward, halt, left about turn, right turn, down, stand, right about turn etc. Though if I could make up a heel pattern I'd probably do one like that round, lots of left about turns which he's really good at!!

Thank you everyone, I still can't quite believe we've got our first title with such great scores along the way as well. I'm so lucky to have such a wonderful team mate

Next is novice (CD). Heelwork and stand for exam are off lead, recall is double the distance and River will need to return to heel instead of me going back to him, then we have a choice of doing a change of position (stand from a drop with me out in front of him) or a dumbbell retrieve. Sit stays are 2 mins instead of 1 and drop stays 3 mins instead of 2min with me double the distance away from him.

After novice we have open, utility and then UDX. I know he's capable of doing open work but will have to put a LOT of hard work into getting him to accept out of sight stays but there's no hurry anyway and if it stresses him out too much I'm more than happy to stop trialling at novice. Plus I can always train him to do the ringwork anyway just to keep his brain occupied
