Angry Urgent help - please can you fix the jamming pages problem?

Hi,

I am the newest member of Global Paw and I would like to complain about a problem with the site which is really annoying me. Every time I bring up a page it jams for about 15 seconds - I am unable to scroll down the page or click on anything for that time. The problem then clears but it's such a trial to keep waiting 15 seconds for each page to un-jam that I will not want to remain a member if it cannot be fixed.

Sorry to make my first Global Paw post a complaint but I thought you should know there's this big problem with the site so other members don't feel the way I do about the site!

Regards,

Dogs

Hello Dogs,

Welcome to the forum. I am sorry you are experiencing problems. I have looked into this and I am unable to replicate your problem. The forum pages are loading very quickly for me using multiple browsers.

If you can answer a couple questions this will help me determine what is wrong.
  1. Are you experiencing this problems on others websites other than Globalpaw?
  2. What browser are you using? (ie: Internet Explorer 6, Internet Explorer 7, Firefox, Safari)
  3. What Operating System are you using? (ie: OS X, Windows XP, Windows Vista)
  4. Do you have javascript turned off?

Thanks and again I am sorry you are experiencing problems.

Regards,
DoozyDog

Sorry you are having problems.

I've never had a problem with anything like that though, so I'm wondering if it's a problem on your end rather than the site.

It was happening to me, too, even on a high-speed connection. I'm using IE 6.0 and Windows XP. It seems to be running better today.

Wow, so many of you having problems...that is frustrating. What browser are you all using?

BradysMama is IE 6.0 is that what you all are using too?

I'm not having any problems. I'm using a Mac, OS X, Mozilla Firefox 2.0.0.11 and Preferences is set to "Enabled Java".

Wow, what a frustrating problem.

I've never had this happen to me either. I'm using Firefox 2.0.0.11 and am in Ubuntu, Linux.

Cass.

This was happening to me as well, after the forum upgraded a couple weeks ago (very annoying, but I love GP so I was putting up with it for a while). Then, about a week ago I upgraded my browser to the latest Internet Explorer, and I no longer have the problem.

I made some changes which I think were causing the problem. Can anyone give me an update on whether you see an improvement or not.

If you are still having problems can you explain in detail what is happening, please explain how the page renders (example: the header appears, then a 10 second wait until the rest of the page loads) and also what you were clicking on, like I was clicking to read a thread, or I was trying to load the home page.

Thanks

Wow I thought my computer was just playing up

I'm using Explorer (not sure what version) and XP.

Mine opens the pages ok (for new threads, opening threads and replies) but then freezes for about 10 seconds before you can actually move the pages or click on any threads to open. Happens every time I try to do something.

I am going to continue to look into this matter. It is really important that you find the user experience here at Globalpaw a pleasant one.

In the mean time while I look for a solution please try these other browsers, which seem to handle the forum a whole lot better.

Internet Explorer 7

Unhappy More information about my problem

Hi Doozy Dog,

Here are the answers to the questions you asked in your first post:

(1) Are you experiencing the jamming problem on other websites or just on Global Paw? I have only ever experienced this problem on Global Paw - I have been annoyed by it ever since I discovered the site about a week ago.

(2) What browser are you using? I am using Internet Explorer 6. I have no reason to think the problem is caused by my browser because I've never had any trouble on any other site.

(3) What operating system are you using? I am using Windows XP.

(4) Have you turned javascript off? I am not quite sure what javascript is so don't know whether it's on or off. Can you tell me what it is please?

Some extra info - I am on a dial-up connection (45.2 Kbps).

Regarding what happens when I have the jamming problem, here's the answer. It happens on each page I click on. Everything on the page (photos, text, links, etc) comes up fine but then it immediately jams for about 15 seconds before I can scroll down or click on anything. I wait for the 15 seconds or so and then suddenly the jam clears and I can scroll up or down, and click on anything, with no problem - however, whenever I bring up another page it jams...

I know you must be really busy but I and everybody else who has this annoying problem would really appreciate anything you can do to solve it. I am impressed by the helpfullnes of the very friendly members of Global Paw and think it's by far the best dog site I've found, so would really love it to be at its best!

I look forward to hearing from you again, Doozy Dog (and by the way, I love your avatar!)

Dogs,

I appreciate the details, don't worry about the javascript it is not the problem. I believe you when you say there is a problem with the forum, and I am still investigating this anomaly.

Unfortunately for now until I can get the problem resolved the only fix I can recommend is upgrading your browser to Microsoft's latest browser "Internet Explorer 7". I realize that upgrading to IE7 is not an ideal solution, and that there is a problem, but if IE7 will remedy the problem, then it will get you to view the pages faster than you could with IE6. There may still be a lag but it will render the pages faster.

BTW: IE7 is a hands down a better browser than IE6 is, and this is not an opinion but well documented all over the Internet. I would recommend upgrading even if there wasn't a problem with our forum.

I appreciate the details which will help me determine what is causing this lag. I hope you take my advise on upgrading.
