Unhappy Akita/Malamute Mix who needs therapy!

Is there anyone out there who can help me? I have recently adopted (as of 2 weeks ago) the above stated mix pup. He is 2 years old, neutered and what little I could find out about him from our humane society.... a non-barker (ha!)... very timid (true except when he sees other dogs, postal workers and pretty much any male with a deep voice). I already love this critter and am running out of ideas to help him integrate into my home consisting of 2 cats and a boyfriend. He is not eating at all... well he actually will eat some baby food out of my hand mixed with kibble... seems scared to eat (or doesn't know how) out of a bowl/dish... and I have signed him up for doggy school, etc... tried all the recommended methods to get him to eat. Have kept him on the leash in the house so he doesn't eat my cats or vice versa... I am just really worried about him. I can't get any background info on him other than he supposedly was surrendered by his family because they were moving. He scored the highest rating the spca ever gave for personality/tolerance... yay! But please... anyone... give me hope for this doggie! As of now I am having to keep him upstairs via baby gates with me most of the time and sit downstairs a few hours at a time with him and the cats... but then he seems to get jealous if I pet one or one approaches me. I know these things take time but right now his eating disorder worries me! It's as if he doesn't know how to eat out of a bowl/dish, etc. HELP!

Did you already take him to training? If so, I would recommend getting yourself a different trainer.
It sounds like you need some one on one training. Only somebody that can evaluate the dog, can really give you advice.
As for not eating, I wouldn't worry about it. Put out a bowl of food, leave it for half an hour and than take it away. No treats, if he gets hungry enough he will eat.
Good Luck
