ER! It won't let me use an avatar

I'm trying to use an avatar as my icon, but this is what it said when I downloaded it: The uploaded file is not a valid GIF, JPG, or PNG file. Please ensure that it is and try again.
What does this mean??!!!

I think you have to have a minimum of 30 posts to have an avatar. BTW, I'm from Ky as well.

30 posts only applies to a signature. Your avatar picture must be in the form of a GIF, JPG or PNG file to be used here as the other extensions will not work. Is your picture a BMP file perhaps?
