Nitro got adopted!

Hooray, Nitro went to his new home today! He went to a home with another female husky, who's just about the same age as he is... she's only a couple months younger. They're a younger couple (my age) and they stay very active with their dog. I liked them a lot. He had no problems with their dog which I knew he wouldn't but you never know at times... and he walked away happily with them! Their female is quite the Momma's girl... keeps an eye on her, so I have a feeling that Nitro is going to be the boyfriends buddy. Which is good because Nitro really needs that. I'll miss the stinker!

Baby sitting another husky. Not a foster, just temporary. The lady is a realtor I spoke with quite a bit when we were talking about moving. Found out she had a husky and all. I didn't speak with her for quite some time and she called me the other night asking if I could do anything to help her. Her son had been evicted from where he was living, and where he was going to stay, they couldn't take the dog with him. It was her dog for 8 years, and she ended up having to move in with her mother, and couldn't take Saphire with her, so her son took him. Anyways, I went into my "help the animals" mode, and I told her since all my fosters were gone, and Nitro going to a home, that I would help her and watch him. She said she would keep up with his food and all which is a big help. She doesn't know how long, but was told it may take up to two weeks. She got her son into the Rapid Housing thing, so not sure just how long it will be. I'm hoping it's not too long, cause it's been a bit of a fiasco here a couple of days.

He's not aggressive at all. He's 10 years old, and she was so concerned... "The hair won't bother you right? If he get out the door, he's going to bolt, will everyone watch out? He can climb a fence, is your fence short? etc etc". I reassured her many times... I've been there, done that, 3 times over. All of my huskies are like that, and if I were one to complain about the dog hair... well someone should shoot me. LOL I think I sweep my house twice a day just to keep the miniature dogs that hide in the corners to a minimum. So, towards the end, she tells me he's not neutered and if I cared? I told her it wasn't a problem (in my mind, I'm thinking, all my dogs are fixed, what's the big deal? ). I got him home, and introduced him to my guys...................................... Holy cow, what a night mare. He wanted to hump EVERY dog in the house, CONSTANTLY! I had to keep pulling him off "Saph, NO! OFF! Saphire, get down! Saphire quit..." And, despite him being 10, he's still a spunky, active dog, and not a weakling. Most everyone "spoke their peace" though. Denali was the first to tell him "Um, I don't think so buddy!!" I don't mind and that's my way (I know most don't agree with it, but hey, I haven't had problems with it and I'll worry about it if the time comes). He backed off. Sheiba and Ike.. all they had to do was give a low grumble when he came near being all frisky. Nitro, on the other hand... the poor dog. He's young and so care free, he didn't know what to do. Well, that turned into Saph's target. He would not leave that poor dog alone and Nitro was not the type of dog to let Saphire know he didn't like it. I eventually had to crate Saph, because it was getting rediculous. Things started to ease down, and he still had his moments. Now that Nitro isn't here, he acts like the rest of the gang. Just chills for most of the day. He's a good boy. Typical husky... talkative, frisky and just full of life.

She called me yesterday to check on him. I called her back and left her a voicemail.. I told her about his adventure, but haven't heard back yet. I also wanted to talk to her about a concern of mine.

The other night my dad was eating chicken in the kitchen, knowing Saph was behind him and heard a noise like water running. He turned around and it was Saphire, peeing, and Saph turned around and jogged out of the kitchen, still peeing and left a nice trail. My dad just looked at him like "What in the world?" He coward immediately, but my dad didn't scold him or say anything. He just cleaned it up. Lately, he's been leaving small puddles of urine where he's laying, and he left another trail tonight. I didn't see him, but know it was him.

He drinks a LOT of water and I don't know if it's from incontinence, or if he's got something else going on that may be a concern. I might try some antibiotics to see if that doesn't help (maybe a UTI?), but since I've seen the puddles very recently, and the second trail incident, I'm going to shoot her an email or call her right away to see what she wants to do.

So, that's been my adventure. I'm having a service for my mother on Tuesday.. My brothers just got in town, so I'll see them tomorrow. My "aunt" is coming in tomorrow with her boyfriend, and my mom's friend. My AUNT Kathy is flying in on Monday. Have had lots of wonderful words and kindness from people since my mom's passing. It's amazing how many people my mom touched, and most didn't know her that long, or even at all. Most has just been from me, and my stories and admiration for her... Her service will be by the water. Nothing fancy... I believe it's mostly going to be to show our respects and remember my Mom. Celebrating her life, as opposed to mourning her loss. I'll be putting together picture books of her, and the animals we've saved together. Donation jar for our rescue.. From what I know, my aunt Patty (my dad's sister) spoke with her co-workers, and my grandma told us that they have a really BIG surprise for us. She originally told us that they were going to start a collection and help my dad get a job. Either way, it's wonderful how people are trying to help. My brothers district manager is going to send food for our "gathering" (Boston Market, yummy!), people have just been soo helpful. I just want it to be done and over with though... I'm looking forward to having it, but at the same time I'm dreading it.. if that makes any sense. Hard to explain.

So, that's my journey so far. Sorry AGAIN for the length of my post... I just need to be called the "Book writer" lol But it helps me a lot to write all of this stuff out, and get it off my chest.

I also may have a home for Kelso. Friend of one of the foster homes is looking for an adult dog, big dog, as their dog just passed away. She wanted to refer them to Nitro, but I told her he already had been spoken for. I told her I had another personal dog of mine I was thinking about rehoming, but never made a concrete decision on it, and told her about Kelso. She's going to give me the information when she can. They're going to wait until after Turkey Day because they're going out of town.

My house is very quiet though with no Nitro AND with no fosters... I really miss fostering.. I think I might get back into things a lot sooner than I was thinking. I've been active with the rescue even just visiting, and I hate being puppy-less.

Thanks for letting me vent!

I'm glad to hear that Nitro was able to find a great new place! Sounds like a good match and that he'll be a very happy boy.

Gotta love humpers, eh? At least he is respecting the other dogs' wishes towards not being mounted!

His "leakage" could be do to incontience. I've never had Rose or Blackie pee where they walk, but they often do leave puddles after they have been laying down for awhile. Could be a UTI, but could it also be a mix of incontience and marking? Even if he was housebroken in his old home, being put into a new enviornment with other dogs might make him want to mark.

I hope everything goes will with your mother's service and that it helps start the healing. I'm glad that you have so many people taking the time to help you and your family out.

I wish you luck in your decision to rehome Kelso. I can't imagine that will be easier for you, but in the end you'll know what is best for everyone involved!

I think it'll be good to get back in to fostering once things settle down a bit. It'll keep you busy and is something you love doing!

It won't be easy... at all. Trust me, I really don't want to rehome him because he is SUCH a good dog, but at the same time, it would be "easier" because of the amount of dogs I have to take care of. It's just me, by myself, taking care of the dogs. My dad helps only to a certain extent... he'll let some of the dogs out in the morning, but not all of them and especially if he knows I've went in for an early shift and am coming home for lunch. I've expressed my opinion numerous times to him... there are times where he will be a big help, but it's few and far between. Letting the dogs out, feeding them all, etc takes up a lot of my time on my lunch break, and I get about 15 minutes to eat out of an hour. Yes, I was part of the decision in taking on this amount of dogs, but at the same time it's because my mom and I were doing it TOGETHER. I don't have the help anymore... it's stressful for me at times and other times I don't have a care in the world and I love it. The other biggest concern of mine is our neighbor in the back. They are nosey... very nosey. She's already questioned me about how many dogs I have and commented that "I've counted 8 dogs out here at one time, and that's way too many for this area". I didn't tell her just how many I had, and that the chihuahuas were my mom's friends dogs and that we are baby sitting them. Yes, our landlord knows we have the dogs, but I don't need someone to call the town on us for our numbers.. again... and be kicked out because we are over the limit for the town. My dogs are not a nuisance either... it's just from the neighbor being nosey, so in turn for all of that, I have to let the dogs out 2-3 at a time, depending on what time of day it is or if they are home. If no one is home, I let the whole crew out.

So, having one less dog, would make things a bit easier for us. I haven't made a concrete decision on it yet, and it may never happen. But I'll talk to these people, and feel them out to see what they're like. I've never met them, nor talked to them, and I may not like them, or I may change my mind.. who knows. But it definetly won't be easy for me if I do make that decision.

I love all of my dogs, and right now, the numbers can be stressful, especially doing it on my own, and at a time like this... any other time I probably could do it without any stress. But I have so much on my plate that my stress from other factors play into everything.

So, I'm just trying to take things one step at a time, and weighing out my options. Things may turn around and get better, and that's what I'm hoping for.

Blah, another vent. LOL

I have lots to do tomorrow. Getting some pictures together, stuff for the service, and my aunt is flying in tomorrow evening.

And it's amazing... who would of thought that death would be so expensive. The price for basic burial and service, etc can cost up to $10,000.... geez.

My computer is possessed...I was replying to this and all of a sudden it went back to the previous page (without the option of going forward) and erased all of my typing. GAH.

I know how stressful it can be having to take care of numerous animals without the help of someone. Shoot, I get frustrated with just three dogs and no one in the family willing to help at times. (Like stand up out of a chair, walk ten feet, and open up a door to let a barking dog out to go to the bathroom.)

I know you would never rehome any of your animals lightly and I hope that you'll be able to find a way to avoid it, but that may or may not be what needs to happen. Only you can know what is best for everyone involved.

Is there anyone you know who might be able to take a dog or two off your hands short term (sort of like what you are doing with Saph)? That way you can get everything sorted out without feeling overwhelmed.

And I don't envy you the neighbors. You could always just tell them you are fostering. lol A coworker of mine is over the city limit of both dogs and cats, but since the law says nothing about fosters she just claims that some of them are fosters if someone questions her about it.

I hope the service goes well.

I'm glad that he found a house. He was lucky enough to have you in the beginning and you must be glad that he found someone who'll love him as much as you did.
