Hey everyone! Well I'm babysitting for my neighbors. They have the boxer puppy I was talking about before. I brought him to the house for a bit to romp around with Denali and I got some pics.

I apologize for the size of the pics, as well as the quality because these were taken at night and I had to resize them.

I love this one, he messed with the WRONG kitty! LOL

Just thought I would post some pics! I'll be watching him till' the 6th, so I'm sure I'll have some more pics soon LOL I'm going to be working on him with some training. He's like a freakin' cow! He's so strong, and he runs full speed and you, and leaps up to start boxing. Talk about having to hold your balance! He's learned "enough!" already. He gets excited while out on walks and he starts to jump up for the leash. I yelled "No! Enough!" and he stopped and continued walking. Now I just have to work on "Heel" cause he pulls. And everytime he walks by a privacy fence, and runs at the fence with his hackles raised, thinking a dog is going to be there. He likes to "fight" through the fence, which is so hard to get him to stop. He's fine when approaching dogs and everything, it's just through the fence thing..

I also think his ears are "broken". Like the cartilidge (sp?) part, cause his ears lay flat against his head. Unless it just hasn't really hardened up yet.. are some dogs ears just like that?

Well I'll let you all know how his "progress" goes. And I'll be sure to post more pics!

lol Great boxer pics.....boxers are known for their greetings...the wiggle but..lol.....he's a doll....he looks well fed and happy to be with the other dogs...

I don't know if you need them or not, but here are a few little tips that work for me.

Well, for his wild ways, you can just find something he's more interested in than what he's doing and re-direct that energy into something else...another command like sit or let's go. Get some special treats and walk along. If he comes along and doesn't jump up, give him a treat. When he does jump up, turn the other way and don't give him anything, any kind of attention. You can teach him to sit every time he is to get a pat. No sit, no pat. That goes for when he greets other people too. Tell them to wait to pat him till he sits in front of them. Don't let him rise until you give the release word. Don't forget lots of praise when he does well. It's the only way for him to know he's done what was expected. They work for something they really, really like.

When he pulls, stop rewarding him for it by continuing to walk forward. Stop and stand still or turn and walk the other way, making random turns, saying, "let's go." (or whatever word you use) Skip the formal heel until he can walk nicely on a loose lead. And don't forget to use plenty of pea sized treats as he walks nicely, rewarding him. Later you can eliminate some of that treating or do so more randomly, but at first to get the behavior solid, treats work wonders.

Don't give a command though unless you are sure he's going to comply. You can make funny noises, run a little bit the other way, hide behind a bush or something to attract his attention and if and when he does do what you want, then give the command exactly when he does it and reward, "gooooood watch" and a treat. He'll catch onto what brings him the good stuff and what doesn't. You can also try teaching him to give you his attention. Eye contact when you say "watch" = treat. LOL.

Thanks Carrie... I was wondering about that, and I was trying to work on heel with him. He did it a couple times, but then sped right up as soon as I said "Good boy". LOL But I'll try that now..

I was thinking about teaching him that... I had done that with Sarge, and he did very well. So I'll work on that with him today. They have a command for him to be aware of his surroundings, such as "Watch um' Rock". And he'll perk his head up and watch everything around him. So I don't want to confuse him with "watch". Hrm, any other word that wuold be good to use to get his attention? I know I could probably even use "booger butt" to get his attention, but.. LOL Could "Attention!" (doggy bootcamp! ) be too big of a word for him to associate giving me his attention?

LOL! How about "Look!" I know...there are so many words they learn, it's easy to forget something and use a similar word. When Lyric is trotting around the yard, pretending to be a guard dog, LOL...I use the word Higgins uses on the lads in Magnum PI...."patrol." LOL. Hee hee hee. Lyric is such a dork sometimes. He looks so ferocious, then makes an honorable retreat up onto the porch and does his guarding from there. LOL.

LOL! Sarge likes to pretend to be a guard dog. If my mom or dad comes home, he bolts to the window, barking his head off with his hair raised, but his nub is going 90 mph! I mess with him and whenever I *gasp* he runs outside or jumps off the couch, and just goes "Barooooooooooooo ro ro row!" with his legs all stiff LOL Or I say "Whose there" or "hello!" and he does the same thing. He's a nut... but I tell ya, I'd hate to see anyone try to hurt me... or break in the house. They'd make it in, but they won't make it out, or atleast with all their limbs LOL
But I can just imagine this big ol' dober prancing around the yard acting like he's the toughest dog around LOL

Carrie, Lyric and Duke must be brothers. Duke is the porch patrolsman. LOL Although the things he barks at must be invisible, because I can never see them. And he always has to do the deep Doberman bark, never a gentler, ya know, maybe less quiet bark.

LOL Rose is the one that barks at nothing (in her high pitch bark that carries). Blackie only barks when he needs too (in his deep, big bark that carries.) I say that, 'When Blackie starts barking, you better pay attention. When Rose startes looking at something and pricks up her ears on a walk, you better pay attention, because there is most likely something on the road coming toward you. (Blackie will prick up his ears at a mailbox, so we don't pay any attention when he pricks his ears.)'
Blackie has the bark and Rose has the hearing. They make a pretty good team!
(I always say that Rose stays up and watches everything, and when she starts barking, Blackie will wake up from his nap and see if it is important. If it is, he will start barking. If it isn't, he will go back to bed. lol)

LOL! Yup, they must be related. Isn't that low, throaty growl menacing?

And as for the Chihuahuas....everyone says that they yap so much. When I'm on a walk with them, often (not always) Chulita will start running up the trail barking her head off. I don't see or hear anything and at first Lyric, Jose or Bonnie don't notice anything. But we'll round a corner and sure enough....there is something she was alerting to. I've never seen such bionic hearing as those Chihuahuas have....never in all my born days!

His name is Rocky. I'm babysitting him... Sarge and Sheiba are being mean to him... LOL And you know the picture of him aggravating the cat? Well he tried it again not too long ago, and he got nailed He yipped and ran out of the room. He won't go near her now... LOL
