Rocky was fixed yesterday

Well yesterday afternoon/evening Rocky went to the vet to be "fixed". Initially I went in there to have him looked at for a possible cold. The vet took a look at him and didn't think he had a cold and mentioned that they could do the neuter that afternoon. I agreed and so my little guy stayed behind while I went back to work.

Now, when I spoke to someone at the vet's office before I dropped him off, they mentioned that they would NOT do the neuter if he was sick. Well, when I returned after work, the vet said Rocky let out a snotty sneeze and probably had a little something, however they went ahead with the neuter. Not sure if I should be upset by this, I feel that the vet would not endanger my dog or perform the neuter if conditions were not satisfactory.

When we got home Rocky was totally out of it. Very tired, slept all through the night. We invited him in the bed for the night so he could sleep on the comfy covers w/ us. He got up a few times through the night, but went right back to bed. We took him out in the morning a couple times, so potty wise everything seems to be on track.

I hated to leave him today; I would have preferred to be at home w/ him just to give him some TLC. I had a headache anyways so it would have been the perfect excuse! But I went to work and good thing I did b/c we were short staffed.

So anything I should be aware of in the next few days to come? Any advice on giving his anti-biotic? Pugdawg1 recommended a piece of hot dog, a piece w/ the pill and then another piece right after.

You little guy might be a bit slugish for a day or two, but trust me they bounce back quick! Sounds like all is going well so far.
I use to do the hotdog trick but my kids got wise to that really quick. Now I just have to put it in the back of thier throat and I message the throat then I give then the hot dog.

Just keep him warm at all times and maybe a tummy full of warm oatmeal on a chilly day.

I checked on him at lunch and he is doing great. Almost himself again. I bet by tomorrow he will be 100 percent healed up from the neuter. His cold on the other hand is still going strong. I gave him his first pill, (he took it down like a champ!), so hopefully in a few days the meds will kick its butt

Glad to hear Rocky is doing fine. (I use peanut butter and stick the pill into a blob of it) They never notice the pill. They're too busy licking the roof of their mouths and it just slips down without them knowing a thing. LOL) They're always a little groggy at first. Give him an extra treat from Lyric and the Chi's.

Buddy. (do you want to be called Buddy, Buddy's my pup or Crissy?) LOL.

If your dog is fat, cut back on the amount a tad and increase his exercise a little bit. There is no medical reason to say that there is a direct cause and effect of spaying and weight gain to my knowledge. (which may be lacking here, but that's what I've gathered so far from coming across information)

Update: Rocky is still doing really well. The groggyness is just about gone, although he is still mellow and I imagine tender. We are making sure to take it easy for the next few days.

The vet called and said that they normally recommend the fasting but it was not 100 percent nescessary. I think knowing what I know now, we would have waited a day. But things worked out for us so I guess we have some good karma? (Anyone watch my name is Earl)???

Carrie - I'll make sure to give him an extra one ... I'm sure he will appreciate it
