I like the ban. Being a person who depending on the cigarette can get migraines and nose-bleeds from second-hand smoke highly enjoy being able to go anywhere and not worry abut having pills and kleemex witrh me. Not something that's enjoyable to go through in social situations.

If coming to a forum a few times a day is an addiction, then so be it. I can think of worse that I could be doing, that would have a negative affect on me, and those around me.

I understand what everyone is saying. We all derive our opinions from personal experience. That being said, I will tell mine.

My father smoked my entire life. In fact everyone on both sides of my family smoke. Excluding my mother. I grew up with zero allergies. So did my sis. That being said, I quit when I found out I was pregnant with my son. Never went to a "smoking section", and kept him away from all of that when he was born. He now has Allergy Induced Asthma. My sis smoked while she was pregnant and after. Her daughter has absolutely no health issues at all. I never smoke in another person's car that doesn't smoke, and always have the window down in my car.

I think it's a downer to hear people say that we smokers are nasty, or infringing on their rights. When they lecture us, they are infringing on ours! If a restaurant has a smoking area in the back, that's fine. While I was in the military, they had a smoking area away from all major entrances to buildings so you didn't have to walk through the smoke when entering. That was fine. I just think we should let people live their lives as they wish and not impress our opinions on them. That includes government bans.

Sorry if this comes across as rude, but it bothers me when all I hear is people telling me I'm killing myself, or how "nasty" I am. How I should be living a more healthy lifestyle, etc. It's my life, let me be.

I wish we had a smoking ban here. I hate not being able to go to a nice restaurant or especially a bar and not get smoked all over. In my view its a public health issue, not a matter of choice.

And GSD, a fat-backer sitting right next to me eating a big mac doesn't affect my health in the least, but someone smoking does. Its such a ridiculous idea to me to expect to be able to smoke indoors in a public place. Can I burn my trash inside BW3?

...not to mention, is an hour or so while you're eating dinner too long to wait to have a cigarette? Most Cocaine addicts can even go that long.

Is there a 12 step program in place, yet?

Wouldn't do much good for this group though, we'd all still be together...talking "dog".

Step One : Admit we are completely powerless over our passion to understand and communicate with our dogs...

I think that alot of folks are forgetting the original question .... it is not about smoking bans in generaly it is about a smoking ban that does not allow smoking in a smoke shoppe.....

I am all for smoking bans in bars restaurants public buildings...... however a not allowing a smoking room or area in a smoke shoppe seems a bit excessive to me.

I would agree to designated areas, smoke shops being one of them.

So, is there a new market opening up where people, (all claiming to be related), will sit in a ventilated privately owned van in the parking lots of bars and bowling alleys, 25 ft from public and commercial buildings, and light up?

The Smokemobile,
The Smokemobile.

Puffing away,
In the Smokemobile.

All of a sudden,
You will feel...

Very relaxed,
In the Smokemobile!

PS:

Step 3) Accept "dogma", in the place of dogs...

Just thought I'd add a dog-related comment. One of our dogs passionately dislikes the smell of smoke. He has a very strong sense of smell, and gets annoyed by the smell of propane or our furnace when it first gets turned on in the fall. But, boy, get a smoker in front of him and he goes nuts. He can't stand to be around them and will hide behind us, whine, cry, and his hackles get raised.

One time, the pet sitter company we used had to send a new person (since our regular sitter was busy). She was really nice and sweet, but smelled of parfum de cigarettes. Chili couldn't handle it. So, we couldn't use her. I always thought Chili was the smart, I can't blame him for being scared of people who smell like poison

Oh, I guess I should say that on the basis of rights, I hate the fact that we have to use laws to keep people from smoking in public places. It really frustrates me that more people can't be more considerate. I also hate the fact that more restaurants/bars don't go smoke-free by their own choice. Only ~25% people in the US smoke, but no where near 75% of restaurants are smoke free unless forced. Too many restaurants think it would hurt sales, but don't give a darn about hurting their employees that need that job and have no say in the effect it has on their health. That makes me mad.

Its not hard to find a place to eat without getting "smoked all over" I do it all the time. There's a huge difference between making people have breathable air in their places of business and saying we know most of your clients and patrons over the years have been smokers, but they can't do it in your place of business anymore. I've been in more than a few places that have smoking, or had smoking allowed and the air was no worse than what people are breathing in their homes or in major cities. If all of us non smokers really didn't want to breath air from smokers then we should get together and boycott places that allow smoking and only spend our money at places that don't. Being a wimp on the sidelines having congressmen take away a business owners livliehood, and making the decision of what type of people they can market to is pathetic. Just wait till no dogs can be over 2 pounds (bigger dogs can cause more damage-health risk)must be muzzled at all times (since they could get loose) Must have teeth removed (as to not cause damage if they do bite) etc. SOunds rediculous, but just give a few people an agenda and look what can happen. I still don't see how if a bar owner in america can see that most of his patrons smoke, why can't he allow smoking there??? Why can't those of us that are non smokers go somewhere else??? There's a balance i think. I'm glad its not allowed on planes, in shopping malls and grocery stores anymore, but to not allow it in bars and smoke shops is a bit over the line

In a tobacco-rich state, that's hard to find. I grew up in Kentucky, and I hardly recall ever going to a restaurant that was entirely non-smoking. In fact, I went to several restaurants that had non-smoking sections the size of a postage stamp, and you had to walk through the huge smoking section to get to it. And there wasn't any sort of divider to separate the two sections, so there was still no protection from the smoke. Luckily the owners wised up and reversed the sections later on, but still... As I got older, the situation improved, but there were still very few restaurants that were completely non-smoking. So it wasn't as simple as "taking our money elsewhere." It has taken smoking bans in the larger cities in Kentucky to have more abundant non-smoking selections. And it has caused a major uproar there from smokers claiming that their "rights" have been infringed upon. Um, hello...what about our right not to breathe their toxic air? I have asthma, for Pete's sakes, and inhaling cigarette smoke can cause me to have long-lasting sinus infections that go into bronchitis.

But back to the OP, even I'll agree that it's a little silly to ban smoking in a smoke shop. Most people who go in there smoke anyway, don't they?

What about the smog in big cities? Like when they say on the news: "If you have breathing problems, don't go outside today, the smog index is at a 9"....what do those of you who have asthma, don't smoke, or have other issues do then? Do we ban smog?
