I think they made a poor choice but am all for raising money for such a great cause. I still donated but they can keep their designer mutt.

As I am married to a cancer survivor, I am incredibly sympathetic to cancer research funding, however, I do not condone this project. I think it sends the wrong message. It not only encourages "Labradoodle" popularity, but it may hurt their fundraising, and that is what I find acceptable. If they lose out on donations because of some marketing companies idiocy, that makes me mad.
I wrote them a letter, and I also wrote Maurice's and told them that I understand this is a very crucial time of year, and in my eyes, they really messed up! It's only out of concern for the funds it may lose them that I get so upset!
Yesterday, I attended a wake for a young woman that passed away on wednesday after a long fight with brain cancer.
Last year at Christmas we enjoyed each other's company so much. Her husband is a State Patrolman and they had just gotten home from Russia with their adopted little girl. Just a few months later she collapsed while grocery shopping and they discovered she had cancer. They tried everything to keep this woman alive but the cancer was aggressive and quick growing and spread through her entire body. The surgery they attempted to remove the original mass caused marked differences in her personality and memory, however she stayed upbeat and smiling until the end when the pain was so great. Two weeks ago, the largest mass finally grew so large it paralyzed her body, and her pain became too great to bear unless she was heavily sedated. She passed away at home with her husband and daughter at her side.
Yesterday, I wept inside, looking at the tragedy written on her husbands face. He's aged decades since last Christmas, and that is what I hate about cancer most of all.
Here's Tracy's story. http://www.channel3000.com/health/5442888/detail.html

I encourage everyone to donate not only to the American Cancer Society, and if you feel so moved, to help out the remainder of this family, as the medical bills are astronomical.

That's so sad

It's very scarey how many young people are getting cancer. Something is not right! We need to start looking at ourselves and realize how many chemicals we are using in our everyday life. I realize that some cancer is genetic but I have a feeling that a whole lot more is environmental.

I was watching a program on TV touting herbal and everyday stuff as opposed to taking all the pills that are out there for what ails you. All these pills, yet cancer and all sorts of diseases are on the rise. Makes you wonder....

If you're talking about Kevin Trudeau then think twice. I thought he made sense on TV, then I read his book and discovered he was a nut. He'll say 2 or 3 things that make a lot of sense and get your head nodding, then lay something really whacko on you. And his book isn't really full of natural remedies as he implies, it is bacically him railing against the FDA then you can pay exorbidant prices to join his website and supposedly get all these cures.

It is encouraging people to support irresponsible breeders and to few these mutts that are bred by idiots as an actual breed. UGH!

This has nothing to do with boycotting cancer research people! Donate away, just refuse to buy a labradoodle stuffed toy and write in and complain about it. Well duh cancer research comes over stuffed dogs boycotting, but seriously, saying "no I wont boycott the labradoodle" isnt helping either cause.

Me, Ill boycott away. I have lots of cancer deaths in my family, but I shall be writing in and complaining about the stuffed toy and I certainly will not be purchasing one.

As someone posted earlier, they are jumping on the bandwagon. Whether we like it or not, they are seeing that "designer dogs" are popular right now and this is why they are presenting one for donation.

I don't like designer dogs as much as the next person on here and I know it is wrong... but right now I would sell my soul to find a cure for my mom.

I'm hoping they will notice the letters! If I haven't heard back from them by Monday evening, I'm going to call someone on Tuesday.
How could they be so ignorant?

CTDog ~ Noone is saying we shouldn't donate time and effort to finding a cure. Noone is trying to take away anything from the emotion and hardship that you are going through. I think I'm safe in saying we all believe that cancer is a horrible thing that destroys families and lives. My prayers will be with you and your family. The cancer only wins if you let it! My friend Tracy had a smile on her face as long as she could, and because of her faith and belief in God, knew that death from cancer was not the end.

Is the hope here they will pull the labradoodle? If they've already had them made, what are the chances?

I don't know if they'll pull the Labradoodle, it all depends on what they have for options.

If it were me, which its not, but if it were, I would pull the dog, retag it, call it a Golden Retriever, and send it back out next Holiday season. For the remainder of this holiday season I'm sure they could find something fitting in their store rooms, or they could just ask for donation at the counter, example. A person has just made a $45 purchase at Maurice's, Counter girl says, would you like to donate $2 to Cancer research, customer says, "OK". Problem solved.

well it would make me happy if they just would call him "Lucky the mutt"
Or "Lucky the mix" or just Lucky. Lots of movies have mutts in them, and they are very popular so it doesn't have to be a purebread or a want to be purebread.....
