I am very sorry to hear about your mom, CTDog. I hope she gets better.
I think if you are going to write a letter, write one telling them what they have done. They may not have not have known that some dog lovers would be angry about the product. By telling them what they have done, they may correct their mistake or they will not use such breeds in the future. |

They could also mention that "Lucky the Mutt", will coming soon to a shelter near you! You can then donate the difference between the price of the same dog purchased from an "overpriced mutt breeder", and a shelter dog, to The American Cancer Society".
Which could be up to $1100.00 per mutt. Why save just one life when you can save two? ![]() |

While I think anything related to Doodles is stupid, I think Cancer research takes precidence. And to answer your question, yes, the general public is that uneducated. Most people I've talked to have absolutely no idea what a Labradoodle is, or why it's a bad thing.

Some marketing person was just trying to be "hip" and make everyone think he/she had a heads-up on the current dog craze. I think that we are just irritated about the entire situation regarding the "doodlebut" or labradoodle, or whatever it is - so anything that gets associated with it makes us angry. When I first read about that dog, I thought it was the dumbest idea ever!! What a way to spoil two good dogs!! People will do anything for $$$.
Nothing should detract from contributions to the American Cancer Society. It's too real and hits all of us. CT - praying for you and your mom. Keep us posted. Estie |

I agree- using the Labradoodle was a very bad choice. They could of used an animal or like you all have been saying call him Lucky the mutt or just lucky the dog. I have a cousen that was just diagnosed with brain cancer, she hasn't but a few years to live. She has 2 kids, one is my baby sisters age(a few months older) and her oldest in around my younger brothers age. Hers was caused from years of abuse from her ex which caused her numrous head tramas. I'm all for donating funds to cancer research but I feel they should of made a better choice then a labradoodle. They were just using a popular "breed" to raise money- but they should of been more educated on how big an impact they could make and how bad it could go wrong for the dog world. The letters are great Ideas, maybe some one could donate a few ideas of what animals would be the right choice for fund raising. One for me would be "Lucy the shelter dog" or "frosty the shelter kitty" and like an idea a few post down I would ask them to send the message along that there are many homeless dogs and cats in the shelters that need homes. Never know- may lead to a shelter boost and people would start looking towards the shelters to find a companion instead of these doodles and poos'. And I am so sorry for all who have loved one/s with cancer- you are not alone, just remember that there are alot who stand behind you in your fight to end this pain .

I did finally receive this from Maurices, and have never received a response from the ACS.
Form letter: We are sorry to hear about your concerns regarding maurices’ Lucky the Labradoodle plush toy. Our sole intent in creating this stuffed animal is to raise money for the American Cancer Society. We estimate that its sale will generate over $80,000 (the entire net proceeds) and this will help fund research projects and initiatives across the country. Our organization is deeply committed to supporting causes that will benefit those in need. Thank you for bringing this issue to our attention. We value you as a customer and hope that you continue to shop at maurices. If you would be so kind as to respond with your mailing address, I would like to send you a gift card in appreciation of you taking the time to contact us. Sincerely, So they must have received some additional responses if they had to write a form letter, thanks everyone! I did go past Maurices today when shopping and noticed that my local store has pulled the Lucky promo, however the website still has it. Edit: I turned down the gift card! Although my hubby thinks I'm just being stubborn now. I don't think so, they aren't doing anything differently, just telling me, buy our stuff. Grr... |

Because of the popularity in the Labradoodle I figure they just thought the stuffed ones would bring in more money. I wouldn't buy them, but I do give to the cancer society. I also wrote to let them know my feelings on marketing a product that could encourage more breeding of this mix and end up with more homeless ones in shelters.

For them to not only write a response but to offer you a gift card must have ment that they recieved alot of complaints. Few complaints would be a standard letter "we're sorry blah blah blah" but not pull anything, and definitly not offer a gift card!
Good work Novel! ![]() |
