I was listening to our news yesterday and an item really caught my attention. A lady in Cape Breton has opened up a thrift store (like salvation army) for pets only. All articles are donated to the store and the proceeds go directly to rescue shelters! Isn't that a neat idea? I don't know if such a thing exists in other areas but I was very impressed by it.
I know I have many items my boy Shadow has out grown or lost interest in and if they are still in good condition and clean could benefit another pet, who's owners have limited means, to enjoy . There wasn't just toys or blankets but stuffed animals , books anything "animal" related. Just thought I'd share that bit of info. ![]() |

That is awesome. I would love to run a store like that. I was looking online last night and saw that The Three Doy Bakery was wanting to branch out more. I thought hmmm maybe I need to get a store and get into business. First I must graduate and get my degree.
I think these stores are a wonderful idea though... |

We don't have anything like that here, but some of the pet shops donate a certain percent to our dog shelter. I wanted to open a dog botique in the worst way, but the overhead & taxes were just too much.

We have two thriftstores on Whidbey Island that help support our local WAIF animal shelters. I believe WAIF stands for Whidbey Animal Improvement Foundation.
It's a GREAT idea. I found out about one of the dogs I adopted and rehabilitated through a volunteer at the thriftstore, and went to pick her up the very next day! That was my Mia. She was a wonderful dog and I was SO lucky to have found her through that kindhearted volunteer. Thanks Barb! ![]() |

The RSCPA down here has a lot of stores like that.
They're a wonderful idea. The contents of the stores aren't all animal related though, they're exactly like your average thrift store. I was going to volunteer in one when I was younger...never got to though. Cass. |

Ya' know, I've been doing that on a small scale for a long time. I donate all our old (those that no longer fit) collars, harnesses, jackets, etc to shelters. I bring in dog food. I give stuffies. Many items have been collected from family and friends, and acquaintances of those said family and friends, who have lost pets and have nothing to do with the left behind items. It is just known that I am the person to contact for this.
There is nothing similar on a large organized scale. Maybe I should network more and begin a business venture. ![]() I am happy to hear that there are many areas that do this already. |
