Pet sitting..How Much?
Hey Everyone
.. I wasn't sure where to post this. I was wondering how much the average going rate is for a pet sitter. For example, she will come into our home and stay about an hour. She will feed, walk, and play with the puppy. She would be driving about 15 minutes to get to our home.Approximately, what would you pay someone to do that? References are a must, but aside from that, what else is good to know? If anyone has any experience with using pet sitters or being a pet sitter, any advice would be much appreciated. References are a must, but aside from that, what else is good to know? |

Is thuis for like everyday while you are at work or are we talking about like vacation, where you will be gone for a week. If this is a daily thing, and that is all she is doing (feeding, walking, and play for one hour total) I would say around $30 seems fair. I would not factor in their travel time if it is someone that does this for a living, but if it is not then I would say it is your call.
As far as questions, ask them what they will do in a variety of normal situations, dogs sick or injured, does something bad, etc. Ask if they have been fired, or the reasons past employeers have ended their services outside of that they were no longer needed. Ask what they will do if they can't make it over for some reason, sick, car trouble, etc. |

Anyone I petsit for, in my home or in theirs, comes to me by word of mouth. So, in a way I am pre-screened by the people who recommend me. I also do occasional dog walking to give the dog a break when the owners are gone all day.
I charge $25 for overnight stays, which switches to $25 per DAY, if it's more than one night. I charge $15 for a half hour dog walk, and only walk dogs which are within a 10 minute drive from my home. Due to my time being limited, I only do this for very close friends and people who's dogs I've worked with already. |

Thanks for you responses
. It would be about an hour during the day, four days a week, for 2 weeks. My mother works at home but she is going away to Florida for 2 weeks in the spring. We were just trying to figure out everything now. I also figured $30 a day would be okay, but don't know if we should give extra for gas... Thanks guys. You're the best ![]() |

I do petsitting for my drama teacher's great dane and doxie puppy and get $10/day BUT then I have free access computer, tv, bar fridge (non-alcoholic drinks only of course) and food.
