Mystery of the open crates
For about the past two weeks now I've noticed some of the dog crates have been standing wide open after half of the dogs have been let outside and the other half are in the kennel area waiting to be let out.
I keep the crates closed of the dogs that are out if they still have food in their bowls since the others would eat it up while they were gone. Each time I'd peek my head in the kennel all the crates would be standing wide open. For the life of me I couldn't figure out who was doing it since some of the crates have slide locks and some of the other have the twistable handle locks. WHO could be that smart to have figured them both out and give everyone extra kibbles? Well, I finally caught our younger bully Dugan in the act tonight! Ahhhh Ha! Gotcha! Too smart for his own good or his own waist. lol Soooo tonight, I made sure Dugan's group went out first, that should have solved the problem right? Noooooooo, I peek out to check on the dogs that are still inside and every crate was wide open again! There was another master of the crates lurking still inside. Hmmm. So, I baited the master of twists and slides by putting more food in the bowls and closing the crates doors. It didn't take long and AH HA! Caught DEE in the act! LOL So it looks like both Dugan & Dee will have to go out together at all times before the rest of the bully crew starves! lol |

Oh my goodness! That is hysterical.
Those little buggers...how smart to figure those latches out. I hope the mystery truly is solved. Maybe you'll discover yet another clever Bullie. ![]() |

Ok Sonja...here's the plan. You and your hubby build a thingy. This thingy will have a latch on it....sort of a mock crate with first one kind of latch, then as the dog gets that one down, you'll add a different kind of latch and so on until the dog learns to open several types. You will have some extreme treats and some hungry dog....(one at a time) You will shape the behavior so that as the dog raises a paw, you will c/t. Then you won't. When he touches the latch, c/t. Then you'll hold out for more. When he turns it, c/t....and so on. When he opens it, you will jackpot him.
Then when he does this you can set up a course (or maze) with a tunnel, a small jump, some other things, 4 or 5 gates, complete with 4 or 5 different latches which your dog will go through and open. You can also teach them to work latches which will have another cause and effect....besides gates which open. Then you'll enter the dog(s) in that TV show, "Pet Star" and you'll win lots of money and fame. |

Our boy Grandpa lived at the track after he was retired until he was 10 (and came to live with us!). He was a master at opening crates and gates....usually for his lady friends
- and as a result fathered several "Oops!" litters in addition to his 'authorized' breedings. Smart pups! |

Hahahaha Carrie! Maybe they could then teach my litter of pups and we could call them the Houdini crew instead of just the Bully Crew!
LOL Grandpa sounds like my boy Dugan, always trying to impress the ladies. |
