Ideas for getting dog poop smell out of carpet?
Poor Abbie has had diarrhea a few days in a row now. Once or twice outside, but she's been going on the carpet at night and seems to go THEN come wake me up and ask to go out. Vet thinks its the Wellness i switched her over to. She was on Nutro but I switched her to Wellness, it wasn't a fast switch, i've been mixing it with the Nutro for two weeks and she was ok until it got to be about 80% Wellness. I did switch back to all Nutro yesterday, but still the diarrhea continued so now we're not sure what the problem is. Last night was actually worse, she went all over the living room floor and there were little piles all the way out to the kitchen door.
It's cleaned up now but the house reeks of poop and cleaning supplies. Its tried just shutting myself off in my bedroom which is dog poop free but it seemed to have wafted up that way and I could still get a pretty good whiff in there. The windows were open, but I can't really leave them open as my poor rat would freeze to death. Any ideas on how to get the smell out? I'm going through crazy amounts of air freshener here and the smell is still gag worthy. |

I would try various spray on carpet cleaners. There are some you sprinkle down, let sit, then vacuum later. Try nature's miracle or zero odor, both of those work well. Otherwise maybe a clothes pin on the nose for the next couple days...

Many hardware shops or laundry mats rent out carpet cleaning machines. I would rent one of those and clean your carpets. Bissel makes a carpet cleaner for pets to use in one of those cleaning machines.
I find the machines work well when a dog has been sick like that. |

I had the same thing happen on New Year's day and it takes a lot of work to get it out. I have a little green machine and I bought some Nature's miracle to try. It's still not all gone. After I cleaned it I've started using just water and pulling it back up whith the green machine. I'm going to continue that until it starts coming up clear then clean again. I would also appreciate any other ideas.

Hi
i run over accidents with a bissel, carpetcleaner.pretreat with some spray they have for hard stains. then I swear on arm and hammer crpet petodor remover, they have the nonvaccuumspray and the powder, i use the spray sometimes for prewash and sometimes when I remember where a stain was. When it is try i use the powder, it kept the whelpingroom and all the accidents lowscent, we had carpet in that room so i had the steam and vac going almost everyday... at walliworld they have a petstain and odor remover, that one is ok , too. and hoover has a spray for petodor, too, that i like, too. never smelled like poo in the house very long... |

I always thought ammonia was suppose to smell like urine and therefore encourage animals to pee where it was used? Or is that just cats?
