I'm reading a new book, anyone else read it?

It's called "The Dog Listener" by Jan Fennell. So far it seems along the lines of Ceaser Millan's training, implementing body language into asserting your position of alpha of the pack but without any forceful means. I'm only a bit into it but it really seems like an excellent read and an even better tool.
Anyone else ever read it?

I have read both editions (I think they are two? one is like the book only wiht a second section added on with exercises to do?)... Its interesting to read, but not something that made sense to me.

I read both books too and loved them. I put a post about them on here (somewhere - dont know how to put a link) but peoples subsequent post came across a bit 'sniffy' and disparaging about her so I was left feeling a bit foolish. Glad you are enjoying the book so far, I would be interested what you think once you have finished.

Sorry, jus re-read my last post and I sound as though I'm being critical of the other posters. I didn't mean to, so sorry.

I've found the thread but can't make a link! It's worth a read - some valid & interesting points are made. It's called 'Marking'and was started by #1GSDFan.

I want to read that one. I also haven't read Paul Owen's "The Dog Whisperer" book, either.

I found "The Body Language and Emotion of Dogs", by Myrna M. Milani, to be pretty interesting.

I just got "How Dogs Think", by Stanley Coren, but I haven't gotten into it yet.

I usually get my books from the thriftstore, after they've been out for awhile. So, I sometimes feel like I'm playing catch-up!

Oh Jens! I hope I didn't come across that way!

"Dog Whisperer" is more of the "positive" (whatever that means....) type of training if I remember correctly...all of the similar titles are confusing!

If you are interested in dog books/trainign books, I LOVED "The Other End of the Leash" by Patricia B McConnel. "The Culture Clash" is another WONDERFUL book!

Yes, definately read Paul Owens' book. He was the "dog whisperer" long before Cesar took it prime time. Jan's book is good, also. And yes, OEOTL and Culture Clash are great. Also regarding human/dog bonding, Suzanne Clothier's "Bones Would Rain From the Sky". And anything by Dr. Myrna Milani.

Gotta say i am a bit bummed that she doesn't go a little bit further into her methods further in the chapters when dealing with different types of dog rehabilitation but I certainly have found a lot of what she recommeds useful.

I have started to ignore the dogs for the full five minutes when I get home or come back into a room where they are and then call them to me after that period. I also have started "gesture eating"....it is already a noticable difference in their behavior. I certainly think we are on the right track!
