OK, I'll put in a good word for Standard Poodles.
Out of all the dogs I have had over the years they are the easiest I have ever had to train. They don't shed. They love people but my 2 will alert me if a stranger comes to the door but they haven't met a person they don't like. They got along well with my cat and get along great with other dogs. My male weighs 62 lbs & my female 48 lbs. They do need to be clipped about every 8 weeks - I keep my 2 in a short all-over clip - nothing fancy and very easy to maintain. They excel at obedience & agility - but are content with games of fetch and they really enjoy a swim if available. This breed would definitely enjoy to run with you as well as romp in the yard with your other furpal. But they also like to veg and just enjoy your company. Many years ago I had 2 rescued Great Danes. Both were about 1 yo when I got them and had absolutely no training. One was dog aggressive with other dogs outside of our home but got along well with the mixed breed we had at the time. Obedience training is an absolute must because of their size and power. But I found both to be very intuitive and they adjusted their play according to who it was - very gentle with my young daughter, a little rougher with me and they knew they could go all out with my hubby. They are big couch potatoes & definitely consider themselves lap dogs. The biggest downsides to this breed is their normally shorter lifespan (7-9) although I had my 2 until they were 10 & 11; higher vet bills and food bills. |

Thanks for all the replies. So far, the ones that appeal to me the most are the soft coated wheaton, the standard poodle, the three setters, and the collie primarily but I have all the others written down and am looking into those as well.
May I ask what a tibbie is? From linnie's sig I can see its some sort of small/toy dog...? The only think I can think of it Tibetan Mastiff and that most certainly does not look like a mastiff! Those site are helping too. Though the dogbreedinfo.com seemed to give me an array of the "oodle" dogs which I didn't really like. |
