huricane...storms....weather

So I know the people in Florida have it a lot worse then we do here in Elmira but the weather here today is horrible.
Everyone says its from the latest Huricane, if thats true I duno.
All I know is northern PA schools were all closed, a LOT of classes at my College are cancled, streams and rivers are flooding everywhere, a whole town (about 10 minutes away) was evacuated-some of my friends live there and my boss does. Its been raining non stop for like two days.

We have a river that devides the town in half (North and South) that has risen something like 10 inches since last night.
Everyone is making remarks to the flood of '72 here when the whole town flooded, my parents house a mile away from the river was the start of the houses that only had their basements full....but Like my best friends father has a picture of him sitting on the top of the stairs watching his first floor fill up with water.
I have no doubts this will NOT get that bad, but its funny to hear all of Elmira's old timers talk about it.

I have family in NJ and NY and they are getting serious rain that is residuals from hurricane Frances. I would guess that PA is the same. It is only gonna get worse though. I live on Grand Cayman Island and we have, class 5, hurricane Ivan about 36 hours from hitting us. We are preparing for the worst. Within 4 days it will hit FL and will probably travel up the east coast in a similar path to Frances. I would not be suprised if things get worse before that get better, for FL and most of the east coast.

Yes suppose to be another bad one.. Schools wer canceled here wedand today they were delayed 2 hr. Stay safe fireworks..

I have family in NYC is that close to you fireworks?
Scary, another hurricane!? And on the news I heard there is suppose to be another behind that?

the city is about 4- 5 hours away from me....im in central NY, upstate, but really close to the border to PA...its called the Finger Lakes region...

We have had very bad flooding here in Buffalo and all surrounding areas. Many roads have been closed. All the creeks and rivers are VERY high. This morning our whole yard was under water. Now it's fine though. That and there was a major water line break in Amherst, NY...many homes flooded. Our basement is dry for now!

Thats going to be hitting us here sometime tonight. We just set up the sub pump in the basement at work, the darn thing floods everytime it rains.

I live in SC now...but I used to live in FL. When Charley hit it messed up my hometown of Arcadia(in Desoto County) pretty bad. My dad still lives down there. I saw some pics...it look pretty bad. We got a lot of rain from Francis up here...but nothing too bad. Ivan looks really bad.....I hope it doesn't do the same thing Charley did. FL is getting hit one after another, after another! My prayers go out to the people who have lost their homes and I pray that Ivan eases up.
