Whew! That was close!

HI. I just got back from the vet with Cindy Lou (our mini poodle). She woke up this morning limping with her right foot. My husband had already gone to work so I called him. He said that she had jumped out of the bed this morning. (He usually picks her up) Our bed is rather high and we have hardwood floors. She would not put any weight on it whatsoever! She wouldn't even walk out to pee...just wanted to lay in her kennel. Our vet is about 20 miles away (inside the beltway). So the whole way over I was thinking...broken leg/torn ligiment. Worrying about how we were going to pay for that on top of everything else that has been happening lately!

Now the good news! She had a piece of plastic stuck in her paw!!!! The vet removed it and said to give her buffered aspirin (81mg). And she should be fine! YIKEE!

Just wanted to share the good news!!!!!!

I can see why that would be a real scare! Could your hubby maybe make some steps out of plywood and cover them with carpet to put beside the bed? My bed is high off the floor also, and when I start letting mine back in bed with us I'm going to make sure they have steps.

I use a ramp that we made out of light wood. We stapled carpet on it, attached hooks so it can hang off the foot board, and put rubber stoppers on the bottom to prevent it from slipping and to protect the floors. We had to learn to walk around it in the middle of the night though. LOL!!

We have a huge doggie bed that the schnauzer jumps down on but I guess Cindy Lou missed it when she jumped down. I have seem some steps advertised on tv. They are only 39.99 plus 10.00 shipping. They are covered with carpet. I will be calling them tomorrow. My husband is very handy but his honey do list is rather extensive! Anyway, we just won't allow any jumping off the bed until the new steps arrive. Thanks for the suggestions!
