You did fine. That person seemed like they would not be swayed at all. You were patient and calm and came off as very knowledgable but not snotty.

I haven't encountered many people wanting doodles, and certainly none wanting "Tollerdoodles" or "Duckdoodles" or any weird combos they could come up with. Most people don't even know what Abbie is or they think she IS a Goldendoodle. I did meet a man who wanted my mother's Rottweiler to breed with his poodle and make Rottidoodles, but after he found out she was spayed, he didn't stick around long enough for us to discourage the breeding at all. :/

I am so fed up with all this DOODLE dog hype

I am starting to see them everywhere, I just wonder how many more will end up in shelters

I tore down a sign at a local food store that was offering labradoodles for sale only $950

Boy, and to think that I only paid $800 for a well bred ACD from a REPUTABLE breeder. Maybe I should have gone for the cattledogadoodle for only $1000 I would have gotten more for my money cuz they don't shed

I think you did great.
We just can hope that it sinks in a little, maybe gets through the fog of ignorance in that person. Maybe -I still belive in the good of people- that person starts thinking a little.
i honestly don't think that that person talked to a Vet, semed to me that defense-mode was running...
Maybe a little bit got stuck with that person, and if everything goes right, oh well that person will bath in selfpleasure, but if all goes wrong, that person maybe thinking of you and maybe thinking"I should have listened".
We probably never find out. but i hope that atleast a little light in the darkness was made.....

I think you probrably hit that common nerve... you know, the "pride" one. They were probrably all hyped up in that they were getting the trendiest dog out there... perhaps all their neighbours want Weimerdoodles as well.

You were factful, they had iffy answers. Some people just hate it when it's pointed out that they were possibly wrong. Good responses!

it seems you had the misfortune of having to try and talk to one of their offspring. You did a much better job than I could have. Obviously this person knows very little about dogs in general, and anything that you said that went against her decision was seen as an attack on her so she got defensive and started making stuff up. I've never met a vet in my entire life that said a doodle mix is healthier than a purebred, but apparently i must live under a rock, because she's been to 6 of them already

I had the same thought, I could ask our vet and see what his answer would be. I know it wouldnt be that these Mixs are healthier, some dogs are healthy(few are lucky) but what about genedicly/mentaly healthy- a well bred purebred is going to be alot healthier and sounder(genedicly) then a doodle bred just because they are "popular" and "bring in" alot of money. I know there are few breeding programs breeding Labradoodles for service work for people allergic to dogs, but I think its gotton out of hand when they(the uneducated puplic) think they can make a fortune off these poor dogs- irresponsible.

I think you did a wonderful job trying to educate her. Hopefully in the future she will mention portions of your emails to others and they will concur with what you said and it will get her thinking it through some more. I would imagine if she keeps emailing ethical Weim breeders she will keep getting responses like yours.

Why should you feel at all bad for being honest and donating time and energy into replying to this persons emails???
Although I have nothing against non pure bred dogs I certainly wouldnt have the audacity to ask a breeder to breed me a cross breed.
You answered well and with a lot of restraint I thought

That was my first thought too. Sounds too much like a new way to troll than a legitimate interest in purchasing a dog IMHO.

Like someone said, it is passion, believe me, or I wouldn't have spent the time to even respond.
Also, it felt like a troll by about the third e-mail but it could also be pride and defensiveness. Either way, I sure hope that maybe they will check out this forum. I don't know everything, we all know that! But here, you can find so many people that agree or disagree, enough so that you can actually find a place on just about every topic that you feel comfortable. And, once you feel comfortable, you're more likely to relax and open your mind.
I know that since I have been here I have changed my opinion about quite a few things, and some of them were hard felt beliefs that I thought were unswayable.
Thanks again everyone. An uphill battle is easier when you've got lots of motivators like you!! And shandoggy... I just laughed out loud when you said you ripped that poster down. That's the kind of thing I do, my husband gets so embarassed....
