Grrr! So mad!

I am so mad right now! My neighbor constantly lets her dogs loose. I've talked to her about it, but she always forgets (I think that I always catch her when she's high off of one of the numerous things she does). Today I took out Slick, Bert, Neptune, and Mitch. I have to go down my street (not passing her driveway) and then cross a street to get to the mushing trail. As I was coming down my driveway, her dogs (2 Aussies, one huge mutt, and a really fat Rottie that can hardly walk) came up my driveway. The Aussies jumped Mitch. I maced the dogs, and my guys just kept running by and ignored her dogs (poor Mitch just turned away and pulled as hard as he could to get away). Her dogs chased us out of my driveway and down the road until they fell behind. As soon as they were far enough away, I checked my guys. Mitch was bleeding pretty badly from around his right eye, and has 3 puncture wounds that I've found (he has a really thick coat). I honestly was scared to go home because I didn't want her dogs to get us again, so I ended up going over the bike trail and cutting through the woods to get home. I doctored him up (luckily, they missed his eye), and he's fine now. I'm just really mad at my neighbor!
The only thing is that last time her dogs attacked someone else's dogs, she promised to pay the vet bills, and then kept procrastinating and finally chased him (the attacked dogs' owner) off of her property when he tried to talk to her about her dogs.
I'm hesitant to tell her about it because I don't know if she will remember (she is addicted to about 5 different pain killers and smokes pot), and I also want to try and stay on her good side since one of my dogs killed her cat recently when it came over. I know that almost all of the people living around us are ready to take her to court because of her dogs, so should I wait until then to talk about what happened, or should I go tell her and hope that she will listen?

Thumbs up

First off, I'm so sorry about what happened and glad your dogs are ok!
I guess I would decide what to do depending on what kind of person she is. If you think you can talk to her (and she'll actually listen) then I would start there. I would firmly let her know that it is unacceptable to let her dogs run loose, remind her that you are not the only one who has had a problem with this, and that she is running the risk of loosing her dogs due to her lack of responsibility. If she can't be reasoned with I would call the police and make a report. I would imagine if that she has a drug problem, the last thing she would want is the cops at her house. I bet she would "remember" to keep her dogs from running free if it meant another visit with the police. I also wouldn't feel bad if my dog killed her cat. How is it YOUR fault that her cat was on your property and was killed? If yor dogs went over to her house and killed the cat it would be a diferent story. I just can't stand people like her. In my opinion, she shouldn't be allowed to have dogs.

What a dreadful experience...thank goodness you are all safe at home and that Mitch's eye wasn't injured. From what you say I think this person will not listen to you or care for that matter, so I would make a report to the police...after all your welfare and your dogs are at stake here.
I'm not familiar with Alaskan laws but here at home if the dog leaves "his" yard and attacks another, the police will definitely get involved and may take the dog away. Check with your police service to see what can be done.
I truly hope something can be done before a very serious injury happens.Good luck and take care.

I would definatly get the police involved. If these dogs attacked before what is stopping them from doing it again, or worse? You should take your pup to the vet just to be sure. So you have proof and documentation of what happened to your pup if you need to go the legal route. Be sure to take pictures to, if it happens again. Not just of your pups injuries, but also pictures of her dogs off her own property, might help your case.

Best of Luck!

do you know if the police were involved the last time her dogs attacked somebody else's dogs? i would definitely get them involved now. that is completely unacceptable. even if you're not interested in having something done about it, get it on the record, so if you need evidence in the future, it's there.

I think you should have the police involved also. There should be no acception. Even though your dog may have gotten out and killed her cat, does that add up to the numerous times her dogs have gotten out and attacked other dogs/people? I'd call the authorities and see what can be done.

So sorry to here about your babies eye That had to have horrible to be chased by those dogs.

Good luck

I would call the police since this is a "regular thing". Everyone has an accident once in a while, but this is too regular. Call the police and get pictures taken.

Thanks for the suggestions. I went out today (dogless) and took some pictures of the dogs coming out of the driveway, and I got some of them coming up my driveway also. I think that I'm going to try and videotape it also before I call the police just in case (I'm worried about it being hard to figure out where my pictures were taken). I know that she has been reported to the animal control before, so I think that I'll call them. It's a really long drive from Wasilla to Talkeetna, so I know that if the animal control officer has to do it multiple times from different people complaining, they won't be very happy.

I wish you luck in all of this!! If you get pics from as many different angles as possible, you can lay them out on a desk in their proper place in relation to eachother and then landmarks will start showing up multiple times proving it was all taken at the same spot which is your place.

I was wondering if there is someone else who lives with this lady that you could speak to about the problem? Maybe a husband, grown children, etc. Maybe they could help with the situation. If not then I certainly would call the police.

Yes, this woman has no regard for her neighbors or her pets. She has also clearly indicated neighborly concerns over her behavior, will be ignored.

The law is in your favor. I agree you should use it as you see fit, before someone else or their dog, gets hurt.

I hope you also took pictures of your dog's injuries.
