Need Moral Support!
Okay you're all going to think I'm the biggest dork lmao. Gizmo has his appointment to get Neutured next Thursday. I know it's good for the health, and I really wouldn't have it any other way (not wanting to add to unwanted puppies) but I just can't shake feeling so darned guilty for sending him under the knife!
It's not that I think he's going to be 'less of a man' or whatever other cockameme store that's out there as to why males shouldn't get neutured, it's just that I feel awful inflicting pain on him, and he really doesn't like being out anywhere when there's not a familiar face around. Maybe I'm humanizing him, but he gets quite agitated. It's only going to be for a couple of hours, so if anyone could possibly lend a little enthusiasm my way so I don't feel like such a bad mommy that'd be great! |

You have all the moral support I can muster and hugs too. I am sure he will be fine and greatful that he will be spared from all that an intact male has to put up with.
Here if you need to chat.... ![]() |

You're not a bad Mommy. LOL. So many dogs get neutered and it's so quick and they recover so quickly. He'll be just fine. It sure is an easier operation than a spay on a female. They're not going very far in with the knife and messing around with all kinds of muscle and organs....just an eensy teensy little snip. He'll be just fine.

Just remember if this little amount of pain now prevents the extreme pain of testicular cancer down the line he is much better off. I get the same feelings as you when I am away. During our last vacation we had a friend recomend a kennel that they said they really liked... one look at it and I really expected to get a call half way through the vacation saying Shelby did not make it. Keep in mind Gizmo will be really droggy for a while after the surgery and probably won't be as disturbed as if he was awake and realized where he was at. Good luck

netuering's not a big deal as far as surgeries go. if you're worried about him being in pain when he wakes up, by all means request pain medication! there are all kinds of pain meds for dogs available.
and i agree- you'll be amazed by how fast he recovers. animals are amazing. |

Yup he will be all right. You can definetly ask for pain meds. They can give him a shot that will last for 24 hours after the surgery and they can give you some to take home for 2-3 days. My dogs were up and running the very next day after spay. I'll be thinking calming thoughts for you next Thursday. Don't worry, we are all wrecks the day of surgery. Just come here and chat while you are waiting.

Things will go great , you'll see
. Just a thought, if you have time while he is "visiting" the vet, why don't you go out and buy Gizmo a really nice present ...so he will have something new to sleep on or cuddle with when you bring him home. It will help take your mind off the constant worry ( even if it's just for a few minutes) and it will force you to think nice thoughts about how he will be soooo happy to have a present. |

It is fastand easy and you will be amazed how quickly he will recover.
Give him the day smooching and spoiling and he will forget all about it. I think us soppy owners suffer more than the dog ![]() |

Things will go fine.
I do understand where your coming from, I feel the very same way when I spay or neuter one of mine, it's a normal thing for a "parent" to not want to have their baby go through pain but he'll do great and your being a responsible owner. ![]() |

I feel the exact same way every time I have a dog fixed. Don't worry, he'll be back to normal in no time and won't miss a beat, and he'll thank you when he has a longer, happier life with you! You'll be going to pick him up quicker than you think, and you can have some cuddles with your little guy, he'll be back up and running before you can kiss his little furry face!

You are doing the best possible thing for Gizmo and it is much less invasive and painful for a male. You will have a hard time keeping him as quiet as long as the vet wants after the surgery - that is how quickly they rebound. Come next Friday you'll be wondering if he actually had surgery because he won't be acting like it.

Thank you very much everyone!
It's amazing just how much I love this little guy! Things have been strained between my parents and I latley, and my friends have been busy so more often than not it's just Gizmo and I. I don't know what I'd do if he wasn't around, they're such a comfort when you're feeling a little down!I'm glad the procedure isn't going to be that hard on him. On a small side note, today is Gizmo's 6 month birthday! ![]() ![]() ![]() |
