Chipping

Hey, I made a post but I don't know where it got moved to. If your dog has one of those chips implanted in it, does that mean it doesn't have to wear tags on it's collar? If not, then I thought of the perfect idea for a great dane (black) to let it keep that awesome, tough dog look...I could get those army dog tags made up with it's info on there, I think that would be pretty cool.

It's a good idea to keep tags on any dog -- not everyone has the knowledge (or equipment!) to look for a microchip.

Tags are a great idea even with chipping. If a dog gets lose not everyone will take it to where he can be scanned for the chip. If a neighbor finds him hed be more apped to look for you with a number easily readable on the dog.

There are also a few types of scanners. Not every pound, vet, spca has the same equiptment, so they cant read EVERY chip.

Yes you should still keep tags on your dogs, they need that ID. If a well meaning neighbor finds your dog they won't know who to return it to and they might not trust the local pound enough to take the dog there.
