I noticed that their is a place to add your comments about the article to the newspaper. I suggest that everyone does that in addition to writing letters (which I will do). The commissioners might try to keep the objections silent but I bet the newspaper won't! The article just makes me cry! Those poor dogs.

I was looking through their paper to see if they had an updated news stories, since they've stopped adding comments to this story... and I found this editorial interesting.

I see other notes have come into the paper as well, and I sent one to the editor as well.
Thanks Novel for informing all of us of this, and thanks everyone for joining together again in support of dogs. Lets keep the letters coming! |

Has anyone had a response back from the county or any of the comissioners?
And look at all the Letters to the Editor: http://www.mcrecord.com/main.asp?Sec...141&TM=38600.1 |

New Article...
Kennel owner proceeding with business plans Chris Schafer Staff Writer The 600 animal dog kennel Gary McDuffee intends to manage in Belle Prairie Township is certainly drawing more attention than the 800 animal kennel he used to run in the Randall area. In fact, McDuffee’s kennel is drawing more attention than just about any other issue these days.... http://www.mcrecord.com/main.asp?Sec...62&TM=38347.89 |

Puppy-mill dogs kept for breeding spend their entire lives in cages. It's a life of loneliness and privation-miserly veterinary care, little protection from the elements, filthy water, rotting food, no one to play with and no hope of ever being part of a family. They live and sleep on plastic coated wire, because federal law does not even require a solid surface to stand or rest upon.
The best way to rid the country of puppy mills is to convince people not to buy animals from these pet traffickers. Almost every animal at a pet store comes from a puppy mill, and pet stores selling puppies should not be patronized. For reliable information on puppy mills and the current laws in your state, I recommend www.stoppuppymills.com Legislation now before Congress would restrict the incredible growth of the Internet as a venue for the sale of puppy mill dogs. The Pet Animal Welfare Statute (PAWS), S. 1139 and H.R. 2669, would bring these Internet sellers under the oversight of the federal government and it's Animal Welfare Act inspection program. PAWS would not restrict breeding and would only cover large kennels, which are defined as those producing at least seven litters a year. By applying minimal standards to operators who entirely sidestep any federal regulation, PAWS would be an important step in solving the larger puppy-mill problem. Please contact your senators and representative and urge them to cosponsor PAWS. |

Well, we can see by the latest article just how much care these dogs will be getting.....none. He plans on having a two employee to 600 dog ratio to start off!?! Just peachy.

PawsnClaws,
Yes, it looks like they have not added any more comments, but they said they received over 500 emails, phones calls and visits. I don't think that's nearly enough... I wonder where the county is now. Have they hung themselves because they cannot now legally repeal the approval they gave. Did they not think this one through? There has got to be a loop hole they can use to stop this. And yes Crossfire, I saw that too, a relative, probably, will take care of the dogs. WOW! Sounds like he cares a whole bunch! |

OH MY GOD. That's all I have to say... it amazes me every time that people can turn their back on an innocent shelter dog and buy from a pet store just because they "want to know the puppy's history" or "they want a cute little puppy to grow up with the family" and of course, my favorite, "they didn't want the health problems associated with a shelter dog." Shelter dogs are so appreciative, and probably bred better than the pet store puppies.
Having known people that breed the popular breeds found in pet stores, it is dead obvious they are in terrible condition! A Yorkie shouldn't have the type of a thin coated Australian Terrier; a Boxer pup shouldn't be 7 pounds underweight! Unless we educate the public about puppy mills and pet stores, we will NEVER be able to eliminate pet overpopulation. They will just keep getting bigger and bigger, and the ethical breeders will be the ones suffering when they're doing everything right! (i.e. why fill out a questionaire, give references, etc. when you can pop into a pet store and "finance" a puppy with what you have in your pocket!) |

If I wasn't the perfectly law abiding person I am I would do somthing horrible to them but i can't think what to so without it hurting the dogs in the long run. I'm ashamed to be from Minnesota if this kinda of thing goes through, I mean are the conditions going to be like in the winter time it can get 50-F here some winters, just think about that for awile.
